i can do a custom exhaust for my car for cheap. is it a good idea to go 2.5" straight piping from the cats back, or am i going to loose power due to lack of back pressure? any ideas?

No muffler, just a straight pipe from the cats back? If this is what you're
planning on I can guarantee you'll hate the way it sounds. On my 3rd system
the muffler monkey did a very poor job on the install, I was running around
town without a muffler where the pipe seperated....sound was major fugly!
Company's like HKS and Magnaflow spend weeks perfecting the sound after
peak HP has been reached. If you can't afford a good system keep the OEM
exhaust until you can, don't mess with near perfection....

dont get me wrong, i was going to weld on HKS mufflers at the end. i wasnt just going to leave the pipes like that.

I would have to disagree with you I have a 2.5 inch cat-back with 4 resonators, but no mufflers. It is pretty much straight pipes, Ive had this exhaust for over 2 years now and I have no cracks or seperations plus I think it sounds sick.

To the OP, here is the clip of my car
