It's raining and I have CAI

I was in a rush to get to work so I didn't have time to put the stock back in. After a half hour drive in the rain I could still hear the intake sucking.

When I finally got to work I looked inside the grill. I could see the filter was soaked.

Any body else have experience driving in the rain with a CAI installed? Is it going to cause any damage? What happens when moisture gets up into the valve cover? I know bongs work like this, but I don't think the G was meant to filter through water.

You might want to talk to the CAI manufacturer

Not a problem unless you submerge the intake and suck in water, this will hydro lock the combustion chamber and destroy your engine. Basically you are trying to compress a liquid instead of air, destroying bearings, connecting rods, pins and who knows what else.

I agree with Merlin. Unless you get submerged, you should be fine. Actually a little moisture in the intake is good for your engine. In years gone by, there's been manufacturers that have experimented with water injection (with fuel) to inprove combustion and mileage....

Just be extra careful.... and if something happens quickly install the stock box and tow it on over to infiniti.

What did you guys smoke in chem class? I remember the solvent fumes from Organic Chem were enough to cause serious 'effects' on their own!

Re: It's raining and I have CAI

Cool, I am doing tons of research on the CAI and hydrolock issues... I don't think it would be a problem with rain.

Now the snow is other issues... any answer for that?

we smoked copper pennys over bunson burners. my group was facinated on how they just get soft and fold over.

snow? you dont need cai in snow for sure, it's already cold, but ya packed snow into your filter shouldn't be good.

Re: It's raining and I have CAI

My concern is that it will be a pain to remove the CAI & place the stock one back in every winter and spring...

With all the snow we had here, and with the sudden melt, there were HUGE pools of water around town, especially where the storm drains were blocked. I'd hate to run through a couple of those with a CAI!

Re: It's raining and I have CAI

You think it is possible to make the CAI as a short ram intake by not installing the last part of the CAI
