what makes rasps in exhausts?
Weeks ago i had my resonator cut out and put straight pipe in its place. It changed the exhaust note a little deeper and thats about it. The thing is when its cold like just starting the car in the morning LOTS of rasp. After driving for about 5 min and the car is good and warm cant hear it what so ever.
So my question is what is causing the rasp? Is there anything I can do to eliminate it. I heard if i go with an aftermarket muffler then it will not be there anymore. true? not true?

Probably true. What make/model are you running?
Exhaust not can be changed by the diameter of the piping, muffler, resonators, cats/HFC/test pipes, headers vs manifolds.
The reason you are probably getting rasp until the exhaust is fully warm is the cats (my guess) since it takes them a few min to fully warm up.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

Did you have a muffler shop do the work? Do you still have the stock midpipe, just w/o the resonator? How much did you pay?
I'm thinking about doing the same thing and wondered how you like it.

Just to chime in, I picked up a coupe middy from someone here who had the resonator cut and a straight pipe welded in. I drive an 05 6MT Sedan, btw. I would prolli say 50 bucks to get the thing installed at a muffler shop... Opinion wise, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the sound my car makes. I didnt want the full exhaust DRONE that you will more often than not get with any full aftermarket exhaust. The car sounds meaner with the middy but if your not beating on it or WOT then its very very close to stock. IMO the way the car should sound... As long as its done rite, its a mod that you wont regret.
