"Can you point me to some of those posts where people have commented that they don't like the HKS? "

Yep....still waiting for the posts from folks with negative comments on the HKS Sport Muffler.....gotta love people who make comments but can't back them up!

Has no one asked Stromung to make an Exhaust for the G35 Sedan? Their exhaust notes are quite unique. I loved my Sentra SE's (B15 SR20 powah!)

Dude, you gotta read better. He said people didn't like HKS + Coupe Midpipe. Look for cato's post where he describes his purchase from mbarrad.

Why do you have to be an a$$hat about this. What value would I have to lie about what I read? Why would I just make that up? I try to help you, and then you don't believe me asking for proof. I just spent 30 minutes searching the forums for you to find what I read. Thanks for wasting my time, I hope you will now believe me.

Again, there'd be absolutely no point to lie about it. Would you go around just making up foolish crap?

Anyways, here yah go you tool:

Re: Help chosing an Exhaust (Sedan)

Thanks for the color guys.

Brian I appreciate you taking the time to search for the post. Since the HKS standalone muffer vs. HKS + Coupe midpipe setup were not discussed independently, it was certaintly fair that I assumed your negativity could have surrounded the HKS muffler on a standalone basis and hence, my request that you validate your claim. Every post I've seen (Cato, Ryoken, Will_B etc.) on the HKS muffler have been very positive.

Putting all this pent up tension aside, how is the HKS muffler as a standalone piece? I'm looking for a slightly more aggressive note without a substantial increase in volume (db) and no droning. Everything I've read leads me to believe that the HKS muffler may be my ticket.

PS: Never once insinuated that you're liar...simply asked that you substantiate your claim. I know I could have been less condescending. Sign....here goes (big gulp)...............Sorry!

Re: Help chosing an Exhaust (Sedan)

From what I've read, which is extensive, everybody is EXTREMELY happy with the HKS as a stand-alone unit. It's doesn't drone, it's not obnoxious, and offers a real sporty tone.

To me it sounds like the best solution from a pure audible standpoint. However, from what I've read the power gains are only minimal (due to lack of Y and mid-pipe).

Exhaust systems are the best single mod for the Sedan (bolt-on), and without any gains it's not worth it for me to invest in. The fact that it supposedly sounds awful with a midpipe took it out of the running for me.

However, I'd recommend it (based on my research) to anyone looking for a purely sound based improvement.

I bought mbarrad's HKS rear section exhaust and am loving
it more and more. It seems to be producing a deeper purr
lately and I am noticing a deeper idle sound. I wish Mike
never told me about his bad experience with the coupe mid-
pipe, maybe

Re: Help chosing an Exhaust (Sedan)

Alright....I finally took the plunge. Ordered the HKS muffler from NOPI performance in Atlanta. Paid $392 + tax+shipping. Performance Nissan had the same piece for $375, but I wasn't willing to wait to have it shipped all the way from CA (I'm in North Carolina).

I'm counting on you fellas!!!!

Man. Nopi has Borla for sedan for $697.68

400$ for just rear section, or 750$ for everything after cats. very tempting.

Re: Help chosing an Exhaust (Sedan)

Price wasn't the issue for me.....it was the level of aggressiveness in terms of the sound quality that my concern. I simply am not looking for a loud exhaust, just a deeper more sporty sounding one. If this wasn't a concern, I'd have the Stillen dual catback system on my car. I'll be honest, I'm not expecting any gain in power whatsoever.....face it, all that being done here is a muffler is being changed. I am a skeptic when it comes to talk about power gains from Z-tubes and exhausts. Even if there is say a 10-15 hp gain to be had from an intake/exhaust, I doubt one can really feel such gains. A certain amount of backpressure is needed in the system to maintain the torque levels at the lower rpms and intakes/exhaust tend to show gains (if any) at the upper end of the rpm band (sometimes at the expense of lower rpm losses). There is only so much volume of air that can get through the intake and exhaust valves given their dimensions, so no matter how much you really open up the intake and exhaust airflow (via intakes, plenums, exhausts etc) there is a point at which you aren't going to make any more gains unless you use forced induction to force more air into the valve openings.

What I'm hoping for is a nice tone and a cosmetic upgrade. This is all. I'll share my experience with the HKS muffler once I have it installed and have had a few days with it to give a proper account.

Re: Help chosing an Exhaust (Sedan)

I know what you mean. I'm so tempted to get hks coz of the looks and the sound, but to me the best sound improvement I can get for $400 is a nice amp.

I want to do performance mods first, but to me sedan lacks much more in the suspension/wheels/tires department and untill it handles more or less like my old 240sx I'm satisfied with power.

But to each its own. Wishing you good luck with your choice and can't wait to see pics/sound.
