Berk HFC's installed and drone at 2K
Day 1 of driving and it drones at 2K...does anyone know if it settles down over time and break in of the HFC's?
|
test pipes drone at 2k rpms, you have higher flow, pretty normal...how often are u at 2k rpms...
|
your catback is the problem; try putting on the stock exhaust with the hfc and see if you still have drone...
|
I did not have the drone before I put the HFC's on so how can you say the catback is the problem???? In reading other posts people that have switched to test pipes/HFC's have drone also at 2K so wouldn't that indicate the test pipes/HFC's are the issue?
I would understand the drone with test pipes as there is nothing but a pipe there but thought with CC material there is would muffle/stop droning. |
:icon43:2k rpm???
You coasting on the hwy or something? |
Uhh...do you not pay attention to your RPM's when you drive? For a 5AT you tach at approx 1900-2100 at 50-50 mph and when accelerating past that speed.

I wouldn't' say you're doing something wrong. Exhaust systems acti different when they free up more flow. (Add HFCs, TPs, straight pipes)
Some drone some don't. It all depends on the exhaust system. I have Fast Intentions Intimidator and it drones some with my HFCs. Used to bother me alot at first but I got used to it and actually learned how to drive with manual mode a lil better to avoid some of that drone I'll have to record some newer in cabin clips here's an old clip right after I got the exhaust installed.... <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i313.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid313.photobucket.com/albums/ll365/tiguy99/Berk%20HFC%20clips/MOV00487.flv"> here's an older clip right after I got the berks + hr y pipe combo (on stock exhaust) <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i313.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid313.photobucket.com/albums/ll365/tiguy99/Berk%20HFC%20clips/MOV00401.flv"> |
It is enough that my wife commented on it and said it is louder...it is right at the 2k and it "booms" and then settles down...I will try the manual shifting to see if that helps, I read that they do get quieter as they break in but no one seems to know how long the break in period is.
It has been a busy week for the G, new tires, HFC's, spark plugs and the GT Sped STB.. |
once you get over that it drones a bit you'll love it. you get used to it if you drive it often, and the tone is probably sweeeeet
|
I hope so..it has been almost a week and still loud..no one seems to know how long it takes for them to "break" in.
|
HFC's don't break in. There is nothing in them to break in.
Mufflers and resonators with glass packing need a breakin period. |
Ok....thanks...guess I will have to live the drone.
