Sedan Exhaust Suggestions

Hi everyone,

On my 03 sedan the muffler is no longer connected (broken flange) and the cat also has a hole. It's a good time for an exhaust upgrade!

I'm looking for the deepest tone possible. So many products out there - I don't know where to start. I hear the headers aren't worth it. How about a y-pipe and hi- flo cats?

Other than that, any recommendations?

Thanks!

you're gonna get lots of "opinions" on this sort of question, and very little consensus. i suggest researching in the exhaust section of the TECH forum.

i love my hks rear section, mated to a coupe middy. it sounds great when the sound is bouncing off parkade walls! other then that this setup saves about 40lbs over stock and is bulletproof.

don't bother with headers, that's a high-dollar mod for little in return. lots of guys go with the newer Z y-pipe.

I won't favor one setup over the other, but this is what I wanna do.

HR y-pipe
Coupe Mid-Pipe
HKS Axle-back

Anything else to me is overkill driving in a stockish looking sedan.
-oops I favored....

The HKS really gives it that official look from the back, tips are much more pronounced IMO.

Check sound clips on youtube, you'll see what I mean. Kind of a throatier version of what we have on the sedans now.

this is what i'm getting, you won't find a dual tip exhaust system for this car for this price, then eventually you can get an HR Y pipe and Hi Flow Cats

This is what I'll have by the end of summer since the MD VQ dual tip seems like it's going to be a while. One of the most popular set ups for sedans on here and reasonably inexpensive.

I've been waiting on the MD VQ dual tip also. I finally gave up and got myself a Stillen Gen II

My buddy just got a HKS axle back, welded a straight pipe on; then plans on putting a Y-pipe. It sounds very nice. Cheapest and best sounding route I would go

That is a good low price way to go. Next step would be a full dual exhaust like the Borla.

You have to extend it, either by cutting/welding in a piece (what I did) or finding a flanged extension the right length. IMO, hold out for a coupe middy and save yourself the trouble. Other than that, it's the same as the coupe middy and sounds great, even with the stock can, but I understand the HKS makes it even sweeter.

yep. Not a big deal to extend the 350 mid, just cost you a few bucks at a muffler shop unless you can DIY. A coupe mid just bolts on.

Sounds Good.

Anyone have a method for the least Ricey sound? Something like a V8 rumble - if possible? Maybe after the Y- pipe, a single muffler with a straight pipe all the way back. Any good?
