Removed my stock resonator today...

Straight from Websters Dictionary...

RASP ( raassp ): Sound that is emitted from the exhaust tips of an Infiniti G35 Coupe without the aid of the oem catalitic converters nor the oem mid resonator/muffler. Can sometimes be confused with the sound most Honda 4 cylinder vehicles make when oem exhaust is replaced.

For those who have been wondering...yes...it has a LOT of rasp ( my car has test pipes which only make it worse ). Enough that I'm sure 99% of people here won't like it. I personally don't love it, but what I love is that it is LOUD at WOT....yet very decent, if not almost quiet, at low speeds. I kinda enjoy the racy sound it makes, but at the same time doubt I could live with it for long.

I figured that if I don't like the way it sounds I could just get an aftermarket exhaust ( something I was planning on anyways ). FWIW....I have an oem mid pipe for sale ( just the resonator, I cut out the piping so welding will be necesarry )...lol.

loosen the bolts between your midpipe and y-pipe. You'll amplify that raspy horrible sound.

Apparently I hadn't tightened the bolts all the way...they wiggled loose I was going crazy with rasp and felt like my brain was gonna rattle with how loud it was.

I noticed that my stock resonator seemed to shrink when it pipe meets the resonator. I took my caliper and measured it and sure enough... the piping is 2.5" but when it gets to the resonator it shrinks to 2.25" and when it leaves the resonator it grows back to 2.5". Interesting... I really hate the rasp but love the loudness so I might just get a small 2.5" resonator to remove some of the rasp and it's a win win ( increased loudness and better flow ).

It sounds nasty without a resonator.

I didn't have catalytic converters either so I don't know how it would sound WITH cats....but catless and without the resonator...it sounded VERY bad.

the rasp makes sense, but how bad is the droning, especially when cruising at highway speeds?
