Let's talk about throttle body spacers
 

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on an Uprev Osiris tune, but I want to make sure I'm pretty well done with my NA mods before I do. I'm happy with exhaust, so I won't be doing headers or HFCs, but one question they ask on their site threw me:

"Do you have a throttle body spacer?"

I thought, what? That sounds like something I'd see on TV claiming to improve my gas mileage 80%. After searching around here, the only posts I found related to plenum spacers (been there) and throttle body heaters (done that). As for actual TB spacers, I found 3 for sale threads. Needless to say, I haven't been convinced.

But, if it increases the airspace inside the plenum (non-revup engine here) as much as MREV2, it might just work. So, I'll pose this question to the community. Where do we think TB spacers fit in for NA mods?

Heh, my key words were "throttle body spacer." ;) Make sure you read all the posts, though. Some of them go pretty in depth.

I discovered my error was in not limiting my search to the intake sub-forum. I'll take a look around at those posts - thanks!

They are good for two things. 1) Allowing you to add a vacume port/n2/meth injection, or 2) to fix the bend radius issue with the neck of the Kinetix V+ plenum. (That's why i got mine).

You sure you don't wanna go with HFC's? You obviously care about power, since you're getting a tune. The stock cats are pretty restrictive, so aftermarket hfc's/tp's help out a lot. Good luck on your tune though, the osiris tune is a great mod :biggthumpup:

Gah, well don't quote me on it (even though you already did) because I learned to not say "never." 6 months ago I said I didn't see a need to modify the car, and now look at me. Lucky for me UpRev will include an extra tune later on...

you will want to get HFC...but you might just wait til the MD come out. :) HFC give good gains

Haha I was the same way when I bought my car. I didn't think I'd ever mod it since it was already quick and looked great stock. Then I started reading around this forum....and now look at my sig :(.

^Nuts. Looking through your sig we seem to have similar tastes, so add another name to the HFC bandwagon.

How do you like the FI HFCs with the MD exhaust?

We do have similar mods haha. I had my hfc's combined with an hr y-pipe before I got my exhaust and I really liked the way it sounded. Hfcs give it a nice extra growl, not to mention it free's up the exhaust flow. I've had them for about 8 months or so, haven't had any problems yet.

Tony just said he's having problems fitting a catalytic converter in his new test pipes, so the hfc's are gonna be delayed or a no-go :(

HFC are all gonna give you good gains...I VERY HIGHLY DOUBT that there is much difference between brands. Never seen anybody do a shootout of them.

Or at least have him design one with the same principal that his new fan works on:

Wait until you get HFC's or test pipes. If you get a tune, you will want the full potential of the tune. Of all the bolt on mods, HFC's and test pipes will take full advatage of the the exhaust system you paid for and currently have during the tune. As mentioned, the stock cats are very restrictive. Let it breath.
