I decided if you didn't read the other link to answer your question, there wasn't a need for me to have replied that way haha.
a Stillen Z Tube, is just a replacement for your intake tubing, so the plastic between your maf sensor and your throttle body, that is definitely something you'd want to replace, either the stillen z tube, or even an emo z tube would be beneficial. There are also other intake tubes out there, but to simplify let's keep it at that.
very popular choices i've seen amongst the g35/350z crowd are the JWT popchargers, stillen intakes, nismo intakes, and injen short ram and cold air intakes. There are obviously more, but i'll keep the list short.
for the JWT pop charges and the Stillen intakes, they're just the air box replacements, therefore you'd have to utilize the stock intake tubing ( the plastic between the throttle body and the maf sensor ) or a different one ( oem z tube, Stillen Z tube, Aluminum Z tube ). There is some debate on which is best, but the consensus is that the stillen intake has less heat soak between the two, and therefore creates more power.
Stillen intake,

JWT Pop Charger, notice the intake tubing is rounder and has less crap coming out if, this is a z tube.

Although these are considered Cold Air Intakes some people, like myself, attest that these are not true cold air intakes, but rather they're short ram intakes, there is some reasoning for this which i'l try to explain later.
the Injen intake, comes in two variances, a short ram and a cold air variant.
this is a picture of the Short Ram Intake, the filter isn't on.

This is the Cold Air intake, it's basically the short ram with an extension to go down.

Now the reason why i refer to this as a cold air intake, is that theoretically, a shorter intake is inhaling air that is around the engine under the hood that is hot. now if the intake tubing were to go down to just above the skid plate, there air there is colder than what the short ram air would be sucking in. There is a catch though, some say that by the time the air from down there, get's close enough to the throttle body and into the intake manifold, the air gets so hot that the initial temperature of the air doesn't make a difference. There is some debate about this and some people have cold air intakes and some have short rams. For instance some intakes have coatings on the intake tubing to repel heat, so that the air getting sucked up stays cooler and isn't as affected by under hood temperatures.
from what i've noticed, cold air intakes, are louder and sound nicer, there's a nice sound as the air that's sucked in resonates up the pipe. now i've always been told that short rams are louder, but either way, they make more noise. now since the air in the cold air has a larger distance to travel, response isn't as good as a short ram.
there's another option that many people believe to be best, it is to utilize the stock rev up air box with a z tube and to put a higher flowing panel filter inside, like a K&n or amsoil filter.
here's the difference between the non uprev air box and the uprev air box

some people believe that our stock system is already a cold air intake, as air is picked up from the bumper area, if what i know is correct, the bottom piece of the intake is just a resonator and that the only air that gets into the intake is from the air duct on the rad support and that little hole in the air box.
anyways, hope this helps.

^^^ good info - however, there are some inaccuracies...
Using the OEM intake duct (snorkel) that runs near the radiator core support will allow for the coldest air possible by drawing from grille... colder than the ground temps that a typical "cold air" intake draws in...
So as long as you are using a decent heat shield (OEM or Stillen) and using the snorkel that draws air from the grille (not engine bay or ground), you have "cold air" even with short ram.
Stillen used to call their system "Hi Flow CAI"... and thats really what it is.
