Stock Exhaust: test pipe Question

Are there gains when switching out the stock cats for test pipes; even if i keep my stock midpipe and muffler.

I like the stock sound too much but i want extra power.

Yes there will be gains.

If you do get test pipes, make sure to get and aftermarket exhaust shortly after to feel the full potential. The reason is, the diameter of the test pipes are a larger than the OEM Y-Pipe. Even though they bolt up, there is a restriction of flow at that point.

I think I remember reading tp's with stock exhaust sounds like crap and will rasp bad. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It will rasp at high RPM and WOT. In person, it sounds like an amplified version of the stock exhaust. The Youtube videos don't do any exhaust any justice.
