stock intake question

if im not mistaken the only way air gets into the stock intake box is from the front opening or through the side opening. last time i pulled the intake box out i think i saw a silencer or something connected to the bottom of the box. it might have been a 3rd way to allow air in but i did not think to look since thats not why i had takin it out. anyways. does anyone know if thats a open hole to let air in? or would it be benaficial at all to cut the silencer off to creat a 3rd access point for air to be allowed in?

It's an intake resonator and it really has no impact on sound quality or driveability. I've plugged in the past and noticed no real change. Removing it and leaving the hole open will only allow hot underhood heat to enter the airbox. Not a good idea.

^ thats true, I ripped mine out When I was installing my pop-Charger, plus i have a Karookie bumper, so there is more airflow with the side vents!
