coupe muffler inplace of sedan's premuffler.....
coupe muffler inplace of sedan's premuffler.....
for those wanting the coupe's exhaust note, has anyone thought about having the coupe's oem muffler inline at where the sedans premuffler is? better wording would be, remove sedan premuffler and weld in coupes muffler, and then just run a long tailpipe out, removing the sedans muffler in the process......i don't know if there's physically enough space or not to even do that.....just a thought.......comments please.

Re: coupe muffler inplace of sedan's premuffler.....
seems like a lot of work and money for the desired effect that could be matched with either the coupe midpipe or a magnaflow resonator (about $80 installed).

That unfortunately will not work as well as you will have liked.
Think of the entire exhaust tract as one large instrument (say a Clarinet). The location of the muffler (aka baffle) is as important as the size and shape. By moving the muffler up stream, you'll cancel less of the low frequency sound waves. The end result, assuming you've managed to stuff them underneath, will soud very different than what you may be expecting.
It will be interesting to hear how it would sound, however
Hope that helps,

Re: coupe muffler inplace of sedan's premuffler.....
i just had this idea seeing these two long tailpipes on a Mustang (don't which year that was)
THX723 - your reply makes sense.........the audible note will probaly be off then originally intended, however, will the flow/pressure remain the same since the exaust will be leaving from the end of pre-muffler area to rear bumper via longer tailpipe?
jasperg35 - my y-pipe and straight pipe in place of pre-muffler with stock muffler combo produces a mean snarl above 3k+ rpm range.......another post somewhere mentioned the audible note is mainly from the muffler...

Re: coupe muffler inplace of sedan's premuffler.....
i've mentioned in other posts than i pour rice in my g35 to make it go. so i went with the blitz rear section. the sound was deeper but not loud enough. i put in the magnaflow, shed about 400 lbs, and the sound is just right. maybe a little lower, when i install my y-pipe (hopefully).
