Coupe midpipe on Sedan

Does the factory coupe midpipe bolt right up to the sedan factory exhaust? Does the exhaust sound like the coupe after changing the midpipe. What about the Y-pipe also.

Re: Coupe midpipe on Sedan

as a person who uses the search function without success, i'll try to help a little. the coupe mid-pipe will change the sound, but it will not sound identical to the coupe, just a little deeper, and a little louder. the y-pipes are the same. there are plenty of alternatives to change the exhaust, from the headers (difficult), y-pipe easier, cats (not as easy, but not difficult), mid-pipe, and rear section can all be changed out for a number of configurations.

i've used the help function a lot, and all i learn is who has one, and who is getting one, not the advantages and disadvantages. hope this helps.

Re: Coupe midpipe on Sedan

I recently had the coupe mid-pipe installed on my 6MT sedan. The sound in the lower RPM range [below 2500] is deeper and more coupe like [a little louder as well]. To me [from within the car], I can not hear a difference in the higher RPM range [well maybe just a little bit louder, but not really noticeable to me].

Performance flow wise, I'm not convinced that it has lead to any real world gains. The coupe mid-pipe is lighter though [about 25 lbs. if memory serves me right], so that is a definate plus. The install is pretty much a straight bolt-in, though there was a heat shield that needed to be bent in my case.

I got mine free [it was slightly used though], so it was an easy choice for me to put it in. But if I had to pay for it, then I think you need to decide if you want to do any other exhaust system changes. If not, then this is probably a good mod when keeping the rest of the system stock [saves a good chunk of weight].

Re: Coupe midpipe on Sedan

How idi you jsut bolt it in? Did it already have the extension needed? I have Z Car Garages and I like it.It seems to help over 3k and the exhasut note is deeper and slightly burbles at idle...if you are standing near the backend while its running. I have had it for quite a while but no one seems to care so I don't bother to post much about it anymore. Sorry I was not there to help anyone sooner. Your sedan will not sound like a Coupe or Z, just what you have but deeper/more agressive.

Re: Coupe midpipe on Sedan

I think the coupe pipe is a straight replacement - no need for an extension like the 350Z mid-pipe. I picked my 350Z pipe up from Z-Car garage last week (thanks for the tip IQ9) and can't wait to install it! It looks great. Is it very different from the Coupe mid-pipe, or are they essentially the same except for the length?

I can't tell the difference between the two.

Re: Coupe midpipe on Sedan

I'm a bit late getting back to this thread... The G35 coupe mid-pipe is the same length as the sedan's, so no extensions are needed. With the exception of the heat shield issue, the coupe mid-pipe is a straight bolt in on a sedan.

Re: Coupe midpipe on Sedan

I had my heatshield removed due to the Coupe midpipe touching it...anyone know if not having this heatshield will cause a problem?

Re: Coupe midpipe on Sedan

I don't necessarily know that it will cause a problem, but I do look at it this way. Most car manufacturers will try to save every penny possible on a vehicle because a penny here, and penny there adds up over time with the large volume of vehicles produced.

Hence, if Nissan spent the time and money to design, fabricate and have installed this heat shield, they must think [or at least thought at one point] that it helps / contributes to the car in a positive way. Besides, can't hurt to have it, right? [Well you will have to bend / fit it back in.]

Re: Coupe midpipe on Sedan

i have a straight pipe in place of the pre-muffler/mid-pipe, or whatever you want to call it............didn't do a before/after dyno, so quessing 2-4hp gains if any, but the weight savings of about 20lbs was worth it........stock mid-pipe(30lbs) and straight pipe(10lbs)............however, i've since added a y-pipe, stock muffler now produces a very noticeable snarl, not as high pitched as the coupes, around +2krpm........hope that helps you out.
