K&N filter question
K&N filter question
Anybody know if the exhaust note will change with one of these in as the temp gets colder? I live on the east coast and it's finally get a litte colder (<50) and I noticed that my exhaust sounds a little different now. It could all be just a coincidence however I was wondering if anyone experienced the same?
Re: K&N filter question
It's not the filter, it's the cold. It's likely louder when the vehicle is cold, right?

Re: K&N filter question
Yes and it has a slightly more hissing sound. Although not terribly loud. Like I said earlier It just sounds a little different than stock. BTW I had the filter in since the summer and it sounded fine. Now that it has gotten cold I noticed it.
Re: K&N filter question
Perhaps I should have explained further...
...The cold weather is what's effecting the sound of the exhaust. The effects that hot and cold temps have on metal is the same that's happening on your exhaust. The tone 'softens up' once the exhaust is warm because the metal essentially softens up. You only notice it in the winter because the extreme cold temps to warm-up temps are more drastic than mild/hot summer temps and the warmed-up temp of the exhaust.

Re: K&N filter question
Big Ron,
Now I am even more confused...so does the K&N filter have anything to do with this at all? I have already had the car thru last years cold and did not notice any chagnes in the sound, however this year I put in the K&N and noticed the hissing type sound as soon as the weather got colder. Is this a coincidence or not?

Re: K&N filter question
Only thing I can think of is that colder air is more dense which may result in a different sound. I have a K&N drop in as well and think it got a lil deeper.
