What will a y-pipe do as a stand alone with the standard exhaust? I just purchased my G so I'm just learning and reading all the posts regarding all the exhaust mods.

Will a y-pipe with the std exhaust sound different? I know that the power gains are negligible, I'm more interested in the sound.

it gives it a nicer deeper tone above 3500 for sure. well worth it. next month they are coming out with a high flow cat set up which im puttin in also. I want to see how this stock exhaust system will sound with the y pipe and high flow cat set up installed together

the answer you're looking for lies in this forum somewhere. somebody got a picture of what the stock y-pipe looks like hidden behind the heat shield. junk. a minimum performance gain, but you'll feel like you're helping your car out.
the inlets are slightly larger than stock (cause minimal turbulence), and outlets are slightly larger as well (causes a slight increase in back pressure), these differences are negligable, and you should not see any type of loss. if you do decide to go with a larger pipe exhaust, this will fit nicely with those as well. i've been eyeballing y-pipes for about a year before i decided to make this purchase. if you have any questions, let me know.

hope this helps.

3 inch exit which will be perfect if you do the cat back route. right now im looking just to get a electric cut out which will give more hp (gave 7 more hp at wheels when my buddy did it on his g35 with a borla cat back over all 13 more than stock) and for199 cant go wrong .
