ebay intake issues

Well, I'll start off first by saying yes I've searched for about an hour, this forum and others, and still no luck. Hello by the way, I'm Jason, most call me McGee. I bought myself an 06 coupe G35 on new years day this year, and I love it so far. Beautiful cars, I've seen a ton of awesome ones on this forum just by creeping around. So anyways, yes I'm aware my first issue was buying the eBay intake for $40, but after dumping $20,000 on a car, the bank was a little tight, and it was only $40 for @&#!'s sake. Lol. So I successfully removed factory intake, and installed eBay short ram. I was beyond cautious with the MAF, all went well. So I tried to fire her up, fell on its face, doesn't even hold an idle for longer than 2 seconds. So after researching, I've completed every reset recommended. Idle air, accelerator pedal, throttle position, and ECU(removed negative terminal method AND the crazy on pedal off pedal method). Still, no success. The car won't idle long enough to even get CEL lights. I disconnected MAF, I got the expected limp mode and CEL, SLIP, and VEC lights, but it stayed idling ok. I'm baffled. Checked all sensors, checked air return hose, and I'm stumped. I'm planning on putting the stock intake back on to see if my MAF just took a dump, but I'd like to know if I missed something here. No idle, no dummy lights, eBay intake, otherwise bone stock. Advice? Thanks in advance.

Problem = Ebay intake

Fix = Throw it in the trash

Solution = Z-tube and K&N drop in filter

Lol, what's funny is I couldn't find any reviews for them before I bought it. I figured it uses stock MAF, what harm could be done? I'm still baffled as to what could possibly be the issue.

I know, when I hit "buy" I was like uuugghhh. Lol. I am a newbie to G35's, however I do still have my old Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo. The G will get expensive mods when the dust settles. Trust me, I'm not an eBay buyer. I had to have something asap that would get a little better engine noise. Love the stock exhaust, but the engine overpowered it past 3,000 rpm's. So after 3 hours of browsing last night, I came across a 5 year old thread, in which one random guy chimed in to someones rough idle thread after installing a short ram....and found my solution. The cause of the car not idling.....was beyond newb. The MAF housing has arrows pointing one direction. And they were facing towards the front of the car, they should've faced the throttle body. Quick 5 minute turning around of the housing, fixed. Lol. How lame am I for that one?! Lol. Smgdh

Lol at least you fixed it.

There should be an "e" that the arrow points toward, meaning engine.

I've got a lot to learn on these bad boys. The cool thing I learned today is that these cars supposedly have 298 hp? When I bought it I must've read a sedan review because I thought they only came with 280. I'll have to read some more and figure out where that near 20 hp difference comes from. Tune?

And btw, butt dyno is telling me the eBay intake knocked at least a second off the 1/4 time. :-p lol jk, but it did actually make the engine scream a little more. Not too bad for $40 to be totally honest. It'll get replaced with a z pipe and k&n, but for now, it'll do.

If you have a 6MT then you have the "RevUp" motor which has variable intake and exhaust cams (compared to just intake) and a slightly different intake manifold design. The redline was changed to 7000 rpm because of this, and makes 10-15whp more than a 03-04 6MT which is roughly 20hp.

However, there is also a torque loss associated with the higher rev limit, and without mods its a wash.
Because of the variable exhaust cams, the revup responds better to all mods, with a tune of of course. The time is always the most important part.

Wow, thanks Massios. I wont be going too overboard with the G like I did with the Stealth. At least for a while. Lol. I wanted intake, an exhaust that's gonna keep the stock sound but amplify it a little, cams, and tune it. That's all I wanted for a bit. Turbo's come later when its at least half paid off. Lol.I went all out on my Stealth and its cost me two motor rebuilds and a lot of money. I did turbo ugrades, fuel pump/injectors, air/fuel tuner, electronic boost controller, intake, full exhaust, flywheel, clutch, brakes, the whole nine to what I could afford. On stock turbos I got it to smack 12.8 1/4 mile with a sweet 1.6 60' on a stock clutch with stock tires. Not bad for a nearly 4000 lb car! Highest dyno on stock turbos was a 310 awhp. Never dynoed after turbo and injector upgrade because it melted a piston. Ran a little lean I think, just a little. Lol.

all G's have around the same power stock, sedan, coupe, 6mt, awd. it's the same engine for f*cks sake. the revup can make a bit more power tho from NA mods.

Incorrect. The tune on a revup is different, and does dyno 10whp higher.

The auto tragic also saps 10whp on a dyno.

I've outrun plenty of rev-up's in my non.

I've found the extra "power" tends not to make much of a difference in real world applications.
