exaust system 101

Can anyone tell me more about this wire mesh piece? Can it be enclosed with duck tape? or should I just let it breath with scrapes?

Re: exaust system 101

Exhaust systems get hot. Not just boiling water hot, but more like 1,500-degrees hot. I don't think you want to be putting duct tape anywhere near it.

I see. Must be a flexible joint, I'll see if there is primary cover seal inside. Thanks

Re: exaust system 101

That is a flex joint specifically put there by engineers.

It is very important to leave it there.

Re: exaust system 101

I'm guessing because the engine vibrates... and you don't want the entire exhaust system vibrating with it?

Re: exaust system 101

What the F? Duct tape. Why would you even be thinking about that. I'm just curious as to why??? Is it leaking? If so, take it to the dealer for warranty repair. Yes, this allows the engine to move without moving the exhaust. Also I would assume it releives stress on the pipes. Yes, it gets damn hot. No duct tape will not work.

Re: exaust system 101

Just got done taking my chill pill as recommended by my Dr. on the previous post. What continues to be the problem here? Just take the thing to an exhaust shop and have it fixed properly. That's all there is to it. Or you can always pay like $500 to Infiniti to replace the part... May be it's a cheap part, I don't know.
If you still want to try the duct tape, I would just run the car for about ten minutes and hold on to that exhaust piece. If it doesn't get hot, then wrap it with duct tape. As for me, there is no way in hell I'm gonna hold on to that piece after running the car. 'Cause it DOES get HOT.
This is what happens when we take a sports car and drop it lower than it has to be. Isn't this car like 5" off the ground already. Do you really need to corner that hard?
