Midpipe or downpipe

Ok so I don't really know a lot about cars and I was wondering what the difference is between a midpipe and downpipe or are like the same thing. I told my friend that I wanted to buy a coupe midpipe for my sedan and he said it was called a downpipe, then he said that downpipes are better so I just want to know what the difference is between them, like pros an cons. Haha we're only 16 so we don't know much at all

downpipe are known as test pipes which deletes the catalytic convertor. For most sedan drivers, most people use the coupe mid pipe. As for down pipe, people mostly use high flow cats to keep it not raspy and better gains since our cats are one of the most restricted.
