simpler y-pipe**b-pipe fix

Instead of ordering an expensive b-pipe to go along with my new y-pipe, I bought a 3in flange & a reducer cone. 3in down to 2.5in. Not a step down but a cone slope down.

I'll have the flange welded to the cone(bought at 2 different web sights), then bolted to the y-pipe & clamped to the end of my stock b-pipe.

Most places I've researched say that 2.5in pipe is plenty for our displacement.

I want to keep my stock muffler & resonator. (like the stock sound)

Flange- $21.50 shipped (Road/race engineering) Cali
reducer- $8.95 shipped (dr .gas) Utah
welding- ~ $5.00

A bit cheaper than a new b-pipe.

Great solution! From what I've read, that 3 to 2.5 step-down is a real flow obstructor. The choices for y-pipes with an actual 2.5 connector are few and expensive - most are 3.0. This is a perfect work-around.

What brand of y-pipe is that BTW?

eBay special!!! $215 shipped. Pretty good quality, nice welds. I wrapped it in exhaust wrap to help with the sound & heat. Also did the cat pipes with the wrap.

had my exhaust put in today. Alittle tinny(rasp) at 4100-4300rpm's that's it. We'll see if it goes away after a week or so.

also had crank pully installed too.

in the first post I listed the names of the 2 companies. Sorry, I don't have their web addresses handy.

After I installed my UT Ypipe (3" outlet) I experienced that same tinny raspiness but at around 1800 - 2000. But after I put the Fuji on it went away.

Nice thread! How did you account for the extra pipe length due to the reducer flange? I'm thinking about doing a y-pipe/stock exhaust too, but don't want these fitment issues. Any troubles there? Any vibrations? Thank!

Mike

baileyrx,

Thanks for the info. Tremendous help. I just got of the phone with Chuck @ Dr.Gas. They can do the whole thing together: cone+flange+welding for around $35.

I'm going to make final measurements today to make sure their flange (it is 4 1/2" from center to center of the bolt) will fit my y-pipe and than place an order. Now I need coupe mid-pipe

just echoing crazymike - is the extra flange a 'non-issue' to the overall length? i imagine there should be enough play with the fujitsubo style y-pipe because of it's flex sections. just checking to be sure.
