exhaust question - rasp?

right now i have kinetix hfcs, hr y pipe, coupe middy, sebring muffler (from labree).

hr y pipe i believe is 2.75", coupe middy and down to the muffler is 2.5". if i was to get a 3" midpipe, with a resonator built in, would it cause more rasp? i have a bit of rasp now but only when u floor it.

thanks! (the midpipe would be an OBX midpipe)

My understanding is that one of the main causes of rasp is going from larger to smaller diameter piping. You are likely getting some rasp because the inlets of you y-pipe are smaller than your HFC. By adding a 3" mid pipe into a 2.5" muffler you may introduce more rasp...

Hard to nail it down- you've got a bit of a frankenstein setup there. Not that it's bad per se... just... all different.

HFCs are a common culprit... Had the same issue with my Stillen exhaust and that is widely touted as one of the most stock sounding aftermarket setup... Still had rasp with their HFC and exhaust- all similar diameter.

I later learned that turbos were good resonators... sadly not really economical.

Kind of off topic here but do you like your Kinetex HFC? Would you recommend them to someone else?

yee that is true, i think if i end up getting the middy i am going to make the connector for the y pipe 3", then the midpipe, and then the magnaflow muffler #14834 which is 3" as well.

just need to decide if i want to spend that money now lol

Ye its a different set-up, but it sounds really good in person the way it is, nothing to crazy but very deep/agressive tone to it.

I highhhhhly recommend Resonated HFCs via Fast Intentions. Their Catpipes are simply unbeatable. I've put together ...now on the 5th group buy for these through April 15th as a Tax Special. They remove ALL RASP, all the gains of the HFC, as well as a sexy a$$ tone with either an OEM catback or aftermarket.
