Can this cause permanent damage?

As the question states, I noticed about a week ago that my exhaust was louder and raspier. It's in between the muffler and Cat. My question is:

1. If I let it go another week or two before being fixed, will it cause any permanent damage to anything as long as it is not scraping on the ground and such.

2. How expensive would something like this be to fix? I have had some people tell me I will have to replace the entire pipe, other that say it could just be cut and that small portion replaced pretty quickly. I don't want to invest a ton now, as I plan on replacing the exhaust later this year.

It lasted about 75k miles before it happened, which I know is because I haven't been driving it as much in the past few months and the salt and garage weather just caused it to accelerate the corrosion process.

Thanks!

So long term damage isn't a problem which is good. Since the left part of the exhaust disconnected completely due to rust from the left part of the bracket, can I just take off the bracket and get a new one? Or is welding involved with something like that?
