Max Hp for OEM cats?
Max Hp for OEM cats?
Hello,
I tried do a search on this first, but I couldn't find what I was looking for.
I'm going Forced Induction, but I want to keep my stock catalytic converters. I don't want to have any issues with passing emissions tests. Also, I already think that my Motordyne TDX2 exhaust is loud enough so I'm a bit worried with through high flow cats on due to the loudness of the exhaust. Just wondering at what HP levels the stock cats can still flow properly without risk of burning out or failure?
Thanks.

I don't know if this will make a difference, but I'm going the supercharged route. I'm not shooting for super high numbers that are capable with a turbo, but I'd like to know what horsepower level I am capable of running safely with the OEM cats.
OEM cats isn't like say stock internals, it's not like your car will break down because of oem cats if you go with too much power. But they will continue to rob you of a substantial amount of horsepower as you move on with your FI build.
I know if you go turbo you won't pass. Supercharger is street legal and you will pass smog. You can run the OEM cats on there but why would you? HFC will at 17+ HP. I am not sure how much more when you go F.I.
Cats will fail on a boosted setup, guaranteed. Its just a matter of when. If you're worried about noise the turbos quiet it down quite a bit already, no need to cripple the setup with cats
