Question Got a bad cat, what direction should I go?

A few months ago I bought my first car, my base 2007 G35 sedan with the VQ35-HR engine. It came with 130k miles and a list of things that need to be fixed. I have worked down to my final fix, the driver's side catalytic converter. It failed due to in-taking oil from a leaking valve cover on that side of the engine, hence why this is the last part getting replaced. I am unsure of what direction to go with this fix, I'm on a budget and a new catalytic converter is outside of it. I've been told to replace both cats with either test pipes or down pipes. Is there much of a difference between the two? The next question would be if I will still be able to pass inspection with the catalytic converters replaced with either of the options? I'm in Texas so the laws aren't as strict as California, but they are still there.

Side note: Is there a difference between the exhaust systems on the '07 coupe and sedan? I'm finding many parts that are for the coup version but not many for the sedan. I don't think there would be a difference really, but I want to be sure.

Depends where you live, so you'd have to see if test or down pipes will pass inspection. Another option are high flow cats. I think Berks is a popular aftermarket people use here and they are direct bolt-ons. You might be able to buy a used CAT on eBay or something as well, I think some states require OEM CATs. I could be wrong about that last part though.

I have Art Pipes on my car, no CEL so it'll pass in Texas.

Buying Berks is a very bad idea, cost me $300+ in less than a year and manufacture didn't cover their warranty! I wouldn't install Berks on my Honda...lawnmower!
