True Dual or Y-pipe HELP!!!!

OK, I have been thinking about getting an exhaust system. I think I want a true dual exhaust, any advantages to true dual over a system w/y-pipe? Two pipes seem better than one. On a true dual system, you don't have a y-pipe anymore, correct?

Any recommendations and places to buy/install would be greatly appreciated. Im in SoCal.

Oh yeah, Im looking for a system that is not annoyingly loud, but louder than stock and hopefully with the same exhaust note. And I want to most power gains too.

Thanks

The Fujitsubo sounds like the way to go for you. It has large diameter piping as well if you ever go FI. In retrospect though, if you do want true dual the Borla is in line with your desires.

Cool, thanks for the reply. How is the Borla anyways? Anyone have any insight? Power gains?

Thanks

I'm also in the market for new exhaust. I'm shading towards the Borla b/c its cheaper than NISMO. I've heard good things about Fujitsobo and will probably look into that as well.

I found this in another thread (sorry cant remember which one):

The following is from Zsport mag's dyno shoot out.

Borla= 8.2 Hp - 2.7 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
HP increase from 5500 rpm to 6500 rpm range. Lost HP & torque below 1800 rpm. 60mm pipe. Weighs 52lbs.

Stillen= 8.1 Hp - 7.3 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Hp and torque increase starting around 3000 rpm to redline. Lost a little Hp & torque below 1800 rpm. 60mm pipe. 74lbs - 10 lbs heavier than the stock system.

5Zigen= (-3.4) Hp - .02 ft/lbs torque (peak values) Lost Hp, no real torque gain. Most expensive. Loudest. 58mm pipe. Lightest @ 25lbs.

Injen= 7.6 Hp - 5.1 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Small torque loss at 2800 rpm. Torque gain starts at 3300 rpm. Small Hp increase starts at 3300 rpm, maxing out from 5800 rpm to redline. Major loss in Hp and torque below 2200 rpm. 49lbs.

Nismo= 6.3 Hp - 4.5 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Developed torque and Hp over wide rpm range. Torque increase starting at 3000 rpm. Most HP increase from 4800 rpm to redline. No power losses below 1800 rpm. 54lbs.

I have also heard good things about the Fujitsubo exhaust. Also, the Nismo looks good too (will just have to get 6" extension). But, to my knowledge, these systems are all y-pipe/single pipe exhaust systems. Wouldn't a true dual like the Borla or Stillen or Injen (I think its true dual) be a better choice?

I have been leaning towards the Stillen for best power increase and the established name. But, I don't want something extremely loud and annoying. I want something that sounds like the stock system but louder and more pronounced. The Stillen is also pricey.

The Borla seems like a good system, it is alittle cheaper too. But, I don't like the flange connections which might lead to possible exhaust leaks. But, Im sure that is not a prevelant problem with the Borla.

Injen seems like a good system, but I have read it is loud and you get a drone in the car at certain rpm's.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. So many!!!! I'm driving myself nuts over deciding on what exhaust to purchase.

Thanks for the input though.

Yeah the Fuji & Nismo are Ypipe exhausts. The Fuji is actually quieter & has a deeper tone than the stock exhaust.

Did I read your post correctly? You said the Fuji is quieter than stock but deeper in tone? I definitely want something more pronounced than stock. Looks like the Fuji isn't for me afterall.

Thanks

Yes you read me correctly. If you want something louder...you def. don't want the Fuji. But I've heard alot of different exhausts & IMO the Fuji sounds the best which is why I got one.

Thanks for the insight. Im pretty sure I want something that is louder than stock, although the stock sound is awsome. Ideally I would like something that sounds like stock, just louder. And if you can throw in good hp and ft-lb gains, you have me sold.

The decision process goes on.................................

Have you looked into the HKS Hi-Power? It's a true dual that's a louder than stock but doesn't sound like a weedeater.

I wouldnt say the fujitsubo exhaust is quieter than stock. It may seem that way when your in the car since there is no droning, but people behind or around your car can hear it pretty loudly. Its not annoying loud, but a nice deep exotic sound. Also, its pretty loud when your at full throttle. If you dont get the fuji y-pipe, then yes it will be quieter than stock, but with the y pipe, it sounds good

I am 90% sold on the fuji, the only thing holding me back is sound. I want an exhaust thats deeper than stock as you say, but I dont want something thats too quiet at WOT. I do want quiet under idle/highway driving but also want to feel/hear a little sound letting me know of the investment at the back (exhaust). If the fuji is louder/deeper than stock under WOT then I guess im sold. Cruz, you gotta let me hear the exhaust man!!

I have not really looked into the HKS Hi-Power too much. Just have seen it on this site a few times. I will definitely look into it. Anyone know the hp and torque gains the HKS Hi-Power gets?

So, with the Fuji system, its a y-pipe back exhaust system. So, to get the performance, you would probably want to get the Fuji y-pipe as well. Those two items are gonna run you like $1350 according to various websites. Mucho dinero..................
