Question about the headers on my 03 coupe
Hey all,
I recently revived a g35 coupe I bought with a bad motor and have a question about the aftermarket headers.
It came with Megan racing headers already installed on the old motor and in the process of swapping it I didn't think about the fact that the headers have no heat wrap, heat shield, ceramic core, etc on them. This only became a concern because the motor that was swapped in had leaky valve covers (typical lol) and it was dripping onto the headers, creating a lot of smoke but also obviously a fire hazard.
The valve covers and gaskets are in the process of being replaced so that is soon to not be an issue but I'm wondering - how stupid is it for me to daily drive this car with nothing installed to mitigate the heat coming from the headers? As we all know replacing headers on these cars is a major pain and is also an expensive mechanic bill to have someone else do it so I'm just looking for some opinions before I decide to have a shop swap the stock headers back in so I can have a heat shield. Your advice is much appreciated.
