Stopped by Midas again today and they said it is some kind of resonance in the pre-muffler and it may or may not go away. I only have ~350 miles on the exhaust now.
I'm really tempted to put the stock back on. I pulled away from a Civic today and it was really embarassing when you have the sounds of bearings rolling around in your muffer.

I called them today and basically it amounted to "it shouldn't be doing that".
They recommended to take it all apart, and give it a "shake" to see if anything falls out.

Drewer, thanks for pointing out that pdf file for the Borla Exhaust. I bought mine used so I always wanted a set of instructions to go with it.

I found this TSB describing a clicking noise, http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownershi.../ITB05-002.htm
I wonder if it was just coincidence and the exhaust isn't really causing the problem. Could someone describe the noise? I just want to see if it is similar to what I hear.

I am sure that the noise I am hearing is from my exhaust. . .because it happens when revving the engine in Neutral. I did have the loose axle nut TSB when I was at 16000 miles, but I'm now at ~56k and haven't heard that noise since. It actually DOES sound similar. . .but I heard it any time the car was rolling. Also, this new noise started right after I installed my exhaust. . .so again, it leads me to believe that it is the exhaust.
I checked my mid pipes (pre-mufflers) for cracks and holes before I installed, so I know it is not them. . .I'll check the gaskets when I get a chance. . .I have a feeling that will cure it.
good luck. . .take 10!

Well, after welding the h-pipe, burnt skin, and bloody knuckes it turns it wasn't the exhaust afterall. I put the stock exhaust back on and the stupid ticking sound was still there. I guess I never really noticed before because I didn't have the windows down to listen specifically to the exhaust. So afer a week of banging my head against the wall, I've ended up with what amounts to a squeaky wheel and used exhaust.
It looks like one of the pipes is going to be hard to get back on, since it was clamped down pretty good. Hopefully the exhaust shop can try to expand it with a blow torch or something.
Hmmm, I was just noticing that stock exhaust actually has a fairly distinctive sound to it. At least I can go to Infiniti now and they can't say the clicking noise is coming from the exhaust.

Whoops, sorry bout that, that was a typo.
Gotta give credit where credits is due. Thanks, skeleton cru. (that almost rhymed...)
I put a Borla on my 01 C5 and it had quite a bit of interior resonance at about
3000 rpm. Full throttle sound was badass though! The new C6 that replaced the C5 is pretty quiet. It needs a better exhaust. Borla should help out with this problem. Drewer this one's for you. I hope the gaskets do the job.

I just got my car back from the dealer and they replaced the rear axle bearing and outer joint assembly on both the passenger and driver sides. They also replaced my brake pads and resurfaced the rotors while they were at it. My car is quiet again. Now, back to re-installing the Borla yet again.
Drewer, I hope the gaskets work out for you.
For the C6's I would also look into Corsa. I had a Corsa on my old Trans Am WS6 and it was in a word, awesome. Sometimes, I just miss that car.

I really want to go with Borla because I like the tone, but I've heard from a number of people that it's got the popping sound (firecracker effect if you will).
Is this true? Is it really bad or is it subtle?

My "noise" is inaudible with the windows up. In fact, I can only hear the nuisance noise with the passenger's window down and letting off of a rev between 1500 and 2500 rpms. I NEVER hear it while revving in Drive mode, only in MM mode. I sitll have a few last things to check, but other than that, I've only heard a few people with this issue. The overall performance gains and overall sound far outweigh the nuisance noise that you may or may not even encounter.
Good luck. . .I'll let everyone know what I find when I replace my gasket(s).

I just went to the shop today and had everything retorqued. The sound is still there, however its a little bit less noticeable. He said that it may be the way the exhaust is. Another mechanic told me that it may be normal because the stock parts have components that reduce noise and by changing them, you get rid of it (ie the heat shield on the stock header). A leak in the exhaust would be much more noticeable than what we are probably hearing. I have to agree with Drewer that the gains and the deeper tone far outweigh the slight hissing in the low rpm.
