Headers by "ED"

has this website been discussed already? i did a little searching and could not find anything...........

anyway, there is a bunch of information on this site about headers.....building your own.....not me, no welder or time to screw up the design 10 times to get it right.....but there is discussion on the correlation between a "long" header design (34"+) and an increase in low to mid range torque........ versus "short" header design (28"-32") increase in high end hp....can someone comment on the lengths of the different popular headers? also he emphasizes true equal length and collector design........very interesting reading......

I have been reading more on long tube headers and found a site where they installed XERD long tubes on a 350z......when they dynoed the car the numbers were low and they made the following comment........

"We suspect that the lack of backpressure due to the XERD headers and Borla true dual exhaust pair, 350Z's stock ECU overreacting to the higher than expected airflow...."

http://www.automotivecritics.com/

if the a/f ratio is adversely affected by the intake and exhaust mods.......would an ECU flash solve this problem? should a driver of an NA engine install an a/f gauge to monitor the a/f ratio or will the ecu flash keep it constant and it never changes over time?

I'm not sure who "Ed" is, but I would stick with the following when it comes to headers:

Crawford
Stillen
Nismo
DC Sports

However, this article does mention something that I am a big believer in. A little backpressure is good for your car if you are wanting a better launch.

We all spend so much time trying to get rid of backpressure, but eliminating all of it can have a negative effect.

It's a balancing game.

This is why I believe that Y-pipe systems are better for overall performance (as opposed to true-dual systems).
