Motordyne Engineering actually did sth similary, but he has used
two high flow mufflers from magnaflow...

On a Turbo setup, I would not keep the X crossover, not much of a point to have it when the it can't scavange. Not really a fan of Magnaflow's X crossover muffler after having looked inside one at the flow path, which is why I ruled out using one for my TD system. Dynomax does offer some nice dual in/out mufflers in their ultraflow line.

 

How ironic, I went to Mike's Muffler about 5 years ago to have some work done on my Acura Legend.

He did a good job with the exhaust, but he also broke the door lock tab on the driver side, as they were propping themselves on that little piece of plastic trying to get in and out of the car. When I went back the next day, asking them to pay for the repairs, he just tried to get me to go to his "friend," for a "good price."

 

I didn't want the x-crossover, but i gfigured it would be much better than what I've got now. I looked into Dynomax, but couldn't find anything. Any links?

 

I didn't do a very good job of writting my post. What I ment to spell out was that I would not keep the Stillen X crossoever just after the cats when running a turbo setup on a turbo charged car. And on the Magnaflow X crossover muffler, I was not happy with the flow path or crossover path inside the muffler body.

Gurgen - Thanks for the post! I have heard so many good things about the stillen exhaust, but your pictures are proof and I am re-thinking my decision.

I plan on going the FI route (vortech) and am wondering what you would recommend for exhaust? Its hard to find custom builders here in Iowa (yes, BFE) so a bolt on would be best.

I am thinking more and more about the greddy Evo which says 60-70 mm piping? I wonder if it was designed for the turbo kit? Too bad they don't make an EVo TT like they do for the 240SX

Please suggest. I appreciate your input!

 

Does the Magnaflow muffler replacement work with all cat back systems? Do I stand to benefit from it if I'm using the Borla TD exhaust?

 

For the Vortech you won't need as wide open an exhaust as for turbos, since there is no inherent backpressure DUE TO the turbos int he first place. I am afraid that your best bet for the sedan as it stands now is to buy the stillen, and make this modification yourself... can't beat the dual 2.5" piping. Then again, the question is, do oyu really need to have a REALLY wide open exhaust. For best overall performance, yes... but it will also increase the nosie level.

The next one i try after stillen would probably be greddy evo, and make the required modification to it.

There is also the custom route.. Sorry that i can't be more helpful.

 

Thanks, Gurgen. Further research has led me to the fuji which is 76.3mm and has a chambered muffler which provides some backpressure. Best of both worlds, hopefully. The greddy is only 70mm at the max diameter

So the Stillen exhaust is dual path all the way to the entry of the muffler and then it's a single pipe through the middle of the muffler and dual exits?

Isn't the magna flow muffler that you put on have a convergence of exhaust flow in the middle of the muffler as well?

20rwhp with just a muffler change? Thats a serious amount of power increase for just swapping a rear muffler. Not saying it's impossible, but I've VERY curious to see what the dyno says. Let us know! I have a magna flow 3" straight through on my turbo volvo and love it!

Yes..but it's only an X crossover, and still dual in/out. Not a HARD stop and a single through.

Yes... at least. Remember, I am pushing 9 psi minimum throiugh it, and backpressure is an IMMENSE power killer on turbo cars...there are some incredible examples. A good friend of mine did a test run at 12psi with the greddy evo2 exahust on a Z with the greddy TT..made 460whp... unbolted the y-pipe completely..made a run and made 580whp. No kidding.
