I used to run test pipes on a stock exhaust.

The raspiness got to me though. It made the car sound ricey!

So I went all out on a custom dual exhaust, kept the test pipes, and I have no raspiness.

Test pipes on an otherwise stock exhaust provides good gains and not too much rice. I guess the rice part can be subjective but at least the stock exhaust will do a much better job of cutting down the rasp than any of the production aftermarket exhaust systems.

I purchased a pair of test pipes on Ebay. The price was too good not to try. They don't look too bad.. I won the auction at $31 picked up. I believe he had a few other sets for $100 Buy it now. Anyway, I was just debating whether I should put them on now or wait till I get an exhaust.. (which I don't know when I'll be able to.)

They will make power no matter what exhaust you use.

And $31 bux is a steal.

Do you need to run MIL's or anything when you remove the cats? Don't want to throw an engine code, but I am not sure how these ECM's work. Thanks

Yes, you will get a CEL with test pipes. But there are F/A sensor spacers that are supposed to fix that.

Go to the Z board and do a search on "test pipe help"
You will find a thread about quick and easy fixes for the test pipes.
