Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

For the guy about to install it, hear is the most important tip: DO NOT DROP ANYTHING!

For those who put on the Z pipe - what exactly do you hear that makes the car "louder" or sound different? I put mine on this weekend, and think I notice quicker accelleration response. But I can't tell if the sound is different or not (its still wonderful of course).

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

At WOT (wide open throttle) a distinstictive "growl" has appeared
with the 350Z intake duct. Prior to the install, I installed Gordon
Gee's 7 wire Hyper Grounding kit a month ago. The G got so
quiet with the wires...it sounded like an electric motor winding
up with no throaty growl, like this was not even a gasoline
engine. NOW with the 350Z duct, the growl is back! I love it.

Ordered mine on July 8. It was delivered to my
front door yesterday, August 6. Well worth the wait.
Paid $75 for the duct, $6.50 shipping + 6.72 tax for
a total of $88.22

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

I bought the K&N filter already for my stock sedan.

I am just wondering if I need to change my K&N if I buy a 350Z tube?

How does the intake duct improve the performance and sound of the G?

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

I have the Stillen Hi-Flow CAI, is really important to remove the protective screen in front of the MAF? Thanks

Don't see why you would need to change out the K&N filter
when you install the 350Z duct. I did not. The K&N should go
at least 50,000 miles before cleaning. The G pulls a lot
harder at wide open throttle with the 350Z duct! It sounds
great (throaty with a growl). I can definitly feel a difference,
and am glad I bought the 350Z intake duct. My dilema now
is, What next? A Stillen CAI?

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

Something you guys may want to consider...

I went to a Z Shop and found a used 350 Z Intake pipe for $20!!
Any shop doing Z's is doing a ton of CAI's and the shops have the left over pipes kicking around... After putting on the Z Pipe, I attached a JWT 350Z Pop Charger to the end of the Z Pipe... Sits just right, so you don't have to worry about taking water with it real low in the grille... I know it's not the Injen or Stillen CAI solution, but shouldn't be ignored either...The sound and kick when wide open is AWESOME!!!!

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

Someone on another thread mentioned that with the 350Z tube the stock muffler sounds like a "fart can" you'd see on a civic. Some of you guys describe it as "throaty" and lower. Just to be sure, before I order the tube, will is sound good or not? Also, others have descirbed it as "louder." Is that engine noise or exhaust? Thanks in advance for your answers.

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

Beavisoncrack, I just finished putting the Z tube on my Coupe,
and I like the difference a lot. I have stock exhaust (for now) and with the Z tube it sounds a little deeper from idle up to about 3k, after that the intake sound under the hood is more noticeable (in a good way) and the exhaust seems a little more resonant. Not louder per se, but more apparant. You can definitely tell the intake is adding to the exhaust note.
What I'm wondering is weather it's worth putting on a CAI or not. (in addition to the Z pipe).
Not doubt the Z pipe is better, being straighter, smoother, and without those noise absorbing chambers (2) in the stock pipe.

1crazmofo: Great find on those z pipes for $20! That's a heck of a lot cheaper than ordering.

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

Has anyone thought about removing the front resonator as circled in this picture? It doesn't appear to do much, but I'm wondering if would change the sound.

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

I've run my Sedan with the Z air duct and the K&N "panel" air filter for almost two months. I like the sound and believe it has helped the car's performance.

Last Friday I removed the lower resonator assembly to see if it would make any difference. (It wasn't easy to remove.)

While not a major change, I believe the air intake now sounds less throaty and somewhat raspy. (Maybe that's why Stillen's Hi-flow Airbox/FAI has the opening for this reasonator.)

Tomorrow morning I'll see how much fun I can have reinstalling the unit.

Re: 350Z tube on G, help.

Thanks for the response! I'll try the z tube soon then with a drop in K&N. Anybody know of a "Z shop" in the LA area (preferably in the san fernando valley)?
