MAF Question
You sure you didn't drop it on purpose?
Anyway, here is what the MAF does:
Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF)
The mass airflow sensor is placed in the stream of intake air. It measures the intake flow rate by measuring a part of the entire intake flow. It consists of a hot wire that is supplied with electric current from the ECM. The temperature of the hot wire is controlled by the ECM a certain amount. The heat generated by the hot wire is reduced as the intake air flows around it. The more air, the greater the heat loss. Therefore, the ECM must supply more electric current to maintain the temperature of the hot wire as airflow increases. The ECM detects the airflow by means of this current change.
So you basically the Engine Control Module would get erroneous or no signal
from the Mass Airflow Sensor and your engine will run crappy accordingly. You
will also get a 'check engine' warning light.
Hope this helps.

Thanks...I did drop it twice.
it slid of the engine cover while juggling not to loose my bolts in the engine bay twice. After all of that one did fall in, but I recovered it. (took me 15 minutes)
I could find that thing with the under cover on and I didn't want to take it off because then I had to pull out the jack and it was 9:00 pm.
My MAF is operational. I just had to reset the ECU overnight. My SES was on and the manual reset wouldnt work...or maybe my timing was off.

Will there always be a check engine light if the MAF is not working properly?
Years ago when I first got the car I installed a z-tube and K&N filter and am wondering if my sub par 14 mpg even when driving like a grandma can be attributed to the MAF. I did do an ecu reset at the same time, not sure if that makes any difference with the check engine light.
Your expertise towards my education on the subject is greatly appreciated.
