Ok, Im torn between HKS and Injen on exhausts... They are both duals, so whats the big difference??...

The "two cans" next to the mufflers on the HKS are the resonators.

 

HKS is in high demand...extremely...

Thanks andy. Would the resonators take away flow? It looks like the exhaust flow would be inturupted by taking that extra route.

If you cut those off and welded a "patch" on would that increase HP? Notice the Injen does not have those on there. And there is also a $500 difference between the two (HKS more expensive). Although $$ is not the object here... But not always does more expensive mean better.

I beleive air only flows through the resonators when at low rpm's, but once you go over 3k the resonators are completely by passed, thus an awesomely mean sounding exhaust. I still love the way the HKS looks

 

Do not cut off those resonators.

They are designed into the system to produce the sound and power of that system. Take them off, you will have crummy sound (unless you like the adolescent coffee can muffler sound) and the resonance that is tuned into the system will be lost, thereby reducing horsepower/torque.

My understanding of HKS is that they are pretty serious about what they offer in terms of it producing results. Don't mess with what they are doing.

 

The resonators were designed to keep the sound down to a legal 95 db, as I recall.

 

So are the gains in preformance about equal beween Injen and HKS?

Also...HKS needed more back pressure, which the two resignators gave... With no back pressure the car has no torque to get off the line... One of the HKS reps told me this....

 

how much increase in hp and tq do you really get with an exhaust system?

from searching, it seams like it's not much and you can even loose some torque. So what's the idea? they seem expensive and i am happy with the sound as it is, and feel that the loudness attracts unwanted attention. BUT if the expense and loudness could be justified by gains, i would understand.

 

def go with HKS because of the good things ive heard about it and the injen issue with the fiberglass.............bc of the high demand of HKS, you might want to consider going with something else

 

I found an HKS that I can pick up as early as tomorrow if I felt that it was worth the money. Sound is not overly important to me... (I don't want it to be obnoxious though). I am looking primarly for preformance with an exhaust. HKS seems to have documented gains of 12 HP and 10 TQ.

If performance is your main goal, check out the Stillen, not as sweet looking as the HKS but the power is there.

 

I have heard that the Stillen produces the most amt of RW-HP than any other bolt on exhaust with a very nice tone. looks to me like i'll be going the stillen route.. i dont drive my car upside down to look at polished pipes..

 

Yeah but it weighs more than the stock system. HKS is 15-20lbs less with more power than Stillen.
