oh god.paint shop AGAIN for the bumper
oh god.paint shop AGAIN for the bumper
Last year a old rusted jeep hit my car rear bumber in a parking lot..I was walking toward my car when I saw that, the guy was getting away until I shout at him to stop moving!! Called the cop, filled a report, inssurance claim.
Paint shop ordered a "refurbish" bumber because it seems the insurance didin't want to pay for a new.The moment I saw the car with the installed painted bumper noticed that surfaces were full of waves. There were even sanding marks under the paint. Girlfriend was telling I should learn to "let go" sometimes and live with it, she was telling me: Come on, it's not that bad...nobody is going to notice that...
Well....each time I was turning around to watch my car booty after I closed the door I could see the waves on the rear bumper...
I finally called the paintshop, took a apointement, explain the situtation to the guys over there and agreed to sand back the bumper and repaint it.
The results were not excellent...but I decided to live with it.
Few monts later...
This weekend I was washing my car and I noticed the paint over the wheel on the bumber is f*cking peeling off....the refurbish bumper was actualy red under my silverstone color....the finish still got clear over the red paint!! look like the company who repair these part didint even sand it befor the primer!!
I called them back this morning (paint shop)...they seems pretty embarrassed...they are going to call the company who repair the bumber (who sold them the refurbish bumper) and see what they have to say...
I am angry, tired of this ****. (sorry for long post and my bad english...)
CLIFF NOTES, lesson of life: 1-Never accept reconditionned part for your car
2- Your quality standards are probably higher than the shop were your car is getting repaired....

I feel for you....
IMO there is no such thing as "good enough"
It's done right or it's not.
If it's not restored to the way it was b4 the incident you have every right to reject it.
Hope it works out for you & the shop stands behind their work.

You know the ****ty part about all of this? The refurbed bumper is about 50.00 cheaper! The just dont get it! My buddy just went through this. He brought the car over and I was like WTF take it back! It looked like shiet!
Thanks for the support guys,
I try to work on myself and sometimes accept ting like they are, everything cannot allways be perfect but when it touches my car...damn my expectations are high...If only I could do everything on it by myself.

That's interesting because this time the guy said he would contact my insurance company (third repair). The second time he repainted it he said the shop have to manage the repair by himself....

Is it worse??
Is my situation worse than yours? I've been w/o my G for 6 weeks now. Then I got a call after the 2nd week in the shop; the part their vendor delivered was incorrect. A week gone by, they still couldn't get the right part from their vendor. The piece their vendor brought in was larger than the one from my G even though it was the same part. (I don't recall what it's called, but I saw the part and it was the same except larger.) So finally, last Friday, I got a call from the shop to pick up the car. And so another tale begins....
The battery was drained and couldn't be recharged. I walked around the car, the repair was sub-standard; several white color spots can be seen underneath the clear coat and a couple of 2 mm round spots not filled up completely were visible as well. Then, the gap on the top right tail light fitment is bigger than the left side. There's more.... Top corner of the bumper on the right was chipped and the paint on the bumper looks orange peel like.
The production manager promised to have those I pointed out all repaired and I could have my car back the following Monday.
Well, that was last Friday.... Then the Monday came. Only the 2 MM spots was repaired and the battery installed. But new scratches on the right rear quarter panel across the bumper where they originally repaired were seen.
Then today... they fixed the scratches on the rear quarter panel, but not the scratches on the bumper.... wtf! Fitment on the rear tail light still the same gap, top corner of the bumper on the right still not painted, orange peel like still remains......!
Well.... spoke to their manager and their customer service adjuster, got a couple of "sorry..." and promise to have my car back on tomorrow with all things fixed.
I took the car there because it was a recommended by my co-worker who had his car repaired there. And also a few of my friends said they are great. It's a reputable shop appointed by State Farm also. For some reason, maybe i just have bad luck with them, no vibe....
After 5 weeks of waiting, driving the camry, and less than ok result. Worse?

oh man, that's definatly bad.....
Me too my bodyshop was recommend by a co-worker...
I cant imagine being without the g for a few weeks!!! it's only been a few days and I an getting crazy! I seriously think I am going to kill me in that automatic wagon Ford focus, I fall asleep while driving with that thing!
I really wish you luck, your case is definaltly more complex to resolve than mine....
On a side note, do you like the Camry? hehe is it the new one(2007)? I have been a member of the design /manufacturing team for all the weatherstrip on that car (and many other toyota)

Still not in my arms yet!
Guess what, I still didn't get my G back today. But I'm really not surprised. The only thing I can say is I'm use to it now.
I look at the bright side, the 6 weeks total is 2k miles less posted on my G, less tear and wear on the engine, and saved approximately $200 in gas, conservatively.
Yes, I was extremely and still somewhat upset that my G was molested on the rear end by a mini van. It's not what it used to be, but it didn't break my arm or legs throughout these 6 weeks. Don't get me wrong, I'm still seeing chiropractor and I'm still getting sortness on my neck for no reason from time to time (which is what I hate the most....!).
Anyway, I really didn't want to get into any quarrel with the bodyshop and I just want them to fix what I pointed out as long as they admit the imperfection and is willing to do the best they can to my satisfaction. It's already been 6 weeks, what's another day.... And that's life. Sometimes you just need to accept it in a way so both parties work out the best options.
On your side note.... Unfortunately, it was a 2006 camry with 4500 miles on it. I like the camry, it's roomy, it's light, it's easy to drive, it's soft, it drives like a boat, it's just...... a car and not a G.
Only if I were a 60 years old granny, I would definitely get one.
The new carmy, I like it. Definitely a huge step up on the exterior change. Props to you and your team. But.... still not my style for my money. Unless of course, I have less than what I can afford....
Wish me good luck in getting my G back tomorrow...!
