$140 for tint remove?

So I live in Maryland bought a G from Virginia and the tint is too dark for state inspections. I've tried bribing local mechanics but no dice. So today I went to a tinting place and they quoted me $140 to get my 20% tint removed.

Am I getting screwed here? Sounds a bit high considering tinting a small car only costs around $200.

Ya! Im assuming its just the front that you need to take off? Take a razor to the top edge to start it then just pull it off nice and slow should come off nicely.
Dont waste your money. I took both sides off in about 5 mins.

If The Weather Is Hot Out It Will Come Off Easy If Not Turn The Heater On Or Get A Heat Gun Just To Soften The Glue Then Pull Easy From Top Down. After You Get It Off You Can Take Regular Alcohol And Clean The Glue Off With A Blade **be Carefull With The Alcohol And Your Panels **

I understand that tinters hate removing tint more than anything so I'm not surprised of the price they quoted you. If this is for full removal including the rear and he will guarantee that your rear defroster stays intact it may be worth it to you. Removing tint can be done but is sometimes a PITA and worth paying to have it done.

No, I just need the sides done so I can pass the Maryland state inspection. I guess I'm gonna be taking some alcohol pads and a hairdrying to my windows tomorrow morning. I hope everything goes ok.

All you need.......................

What your removing is the tint on the door windows
right........? All you need is a razor blade and a
spray bottle with water. Start at the top corner of
your window with the razor blade, spray the corner
to lift the tint.......keep going both windows should
take you all of fifteen minutes......$140 what bullsh!t.
That's kinda like your dropped the soap......

Thanks Gary, yes I am only looking to take off the sides. I am taking it to be put back on after the inspection. A pain in the *** and a waste of $200, but the law is the law.

Anyways, I will try what you guys have said. Anybody use ammonia cleaner to take off the adhesive? I've heard about that....

Thanks!

tint removal

$140 is high. The tint shop that did my son's G35 charges $99 to remove tint. Our tint job was only $165 for 35%. And it has a lifetime warranty. Just remove the tint yourself and save some $$. You can do the heatgun method or just peel at off and clean it with a razor blade after you get all the tint off. Good Luck and take your time.

Well as you already know... that is a very STEEP price to only remove the sides. You should be able to do that without much trouble.

Here is a good link with step by step instructions

another link with picutures

Notice they state to use steel wool to remove the residue. I've heard of people using Mr Clean magic erasers too to accomplish this task as well.

Good luck

You might wanna look around for more prices. I just got a tint ticket and was quoted $10 from my local shop for the removal.

Thanks guys, did it myself this morning. Took 2 hours and was a huge pain, but saved me $100+ to use on putting my tint back on after these MVA *******s inspect my car.

In the future, all you have to do is cut up a black garbage bag then spray the inside of the glass where you are removing tint with a lil soapy water which will make the bag adhere to the glass. make sure you stick the bag against the entire window. Let it sit in the sun for 15-20 min and test a corner. If it removes easily continue peeling if not, let it sit for a few more minutes. This will take the glue and film off.
