Stock Grill..painted?..Anyone did this successfully?

I like the stock grill, but I just would like it painted black. Most body shops I've gone to have turned me down for painting the grill because they said eventually the paint will flake off from either rocks/debris etc. Anyone painted their stock grills successfully? If so, who did you have do this for you? I want my grill just like the pic below:

You mean this pic? (your link gets redirected for some reason)

Getting it painted is no big deal. Getting it not to flake off is. Proper prep is a must. Good sanding, good paint, and a clear coat I think is what will make it work. If you search there are various ppl who have done it.

I painted mine, and its holding up decently well considering it was a DIY. Its not flaking, but it is chipping just like the paint on the bumper. Getting it painted at a shop will likely yield better results because they can lay the paint on thicker than spraypaint, but chips are inevitable on a daily driver.

I have friends that have had good results with a rattle can. Thicker paint, as mentioned above, will chip off easier than thin paint. The advantage of a rattle can is that if you get chips or scratches, take it off, respray, and reinstall in less than an hour. You can get good results with rattlecans in many applications.

That looks sweet. Is the finish flat black or semi-gloss? I was leaning towards painting my rear emblems too. Btw, were those new emblems with the sticky tape or did you have to reapply the tape?

yup.. mine's painted black too. it's just regular black glossy paint... same paint that's been sprayed on my kuruma bumper.

nothing too fancy really, however it looks pretty sleek. to top it off, i added a black chrome mt fuji emblem on the front.
