Having bumper painted, $500 just to spray hood???

So, I'm having my front bumper replaced with a new stock one under an insurance claim. While I was having the estimate done, I asked the guy how much it would cost just to re-spray the hood. He quoted me just over $500. The labor sheet shows over 8hr labor just to spray the hood.

Is this outrageous?

I would say thats pretty fair.....

I had my bumper repainted last summer, and it had a small notch right below the tow hook cover.....to repair it, and strip and repaint cost me $650

It was slightly more since I have ivory pearl....(three stage paint).

So, for an entire hood to be refinished, I think its fair......
as long as they do quality work.....price doesn't matter to me.

$500 to spray the hood! I'd go with a CF hood instead.

If you want a second opinion, I can recommend two shops for you.

Dick's Auto does fantastic work, but you pay for it. If they are lower, then something is up.

(ask for Brendon, tell him chris with the silver G coupe sent you)

Guys on g350zforums love this place:

Worth getting a few other quotes IMHO

Does that include fixing imperfections like rock chips?

This is in addition to paiting the bumper. The paint will already be mixed, the car masked off (just requires masking off a different area, etc).

I dont know, seems CRAZY for them to just spray it while they're already doing the bumper

What color is your car?

If it's black, that's way too much. If it's not, then that's a little over-but fair. The key difference is that on black paint, they won't have to blend your fenders. I would say the total labor hours for your hood should be ~3.5-5hrs at most.

I just looked at the other estimate.

They quoted 4.2 hours just to spray the hood
They quoted 3.4 to remove my bumper, replace it, the energey absorbers the grill, emblem and headlights, reassemble, paint, finish, and aim the headlights. They're off their rocker....

Two thoughts:
1) Why does he have 3 hours of repair on the hood? That's the time quote for a medium-sized dent.
2) R/I on the fender liners is bogus, as if he is replacing your bumper they will already be off.

If you take off the 3hr repair, plus 1.2hr R/I costs, you're looking to shave about $170 off.

If your car is black, the blend isn't necessary, as well. Total quote would be ~$250.

My sled is desert platinum.

There are two scratches on the hood. No dents / dings / etc

Look better...? I threw in an hour of repair just for general cleanup and/or tiny dings they may look at.
