INGS face duct mod

I've has these replicas on my coupe for a few months now and decided to tweek them a little. I like the look of the nismo bumper (see below), but between getting married and buying a house, it's not really an option.

So, I've decided to so a little a work on them by removing the center bar and patching the holes. It's my first time doing any work with fiberglass, so go easy on me

Here's what I started with:

Center bar cut,

And sanded:

One side filled:

This is far as I got today, unfortunately I'm off to work, and busy until next week. I've only rough sanded and still need to go back and do some work with finer grit paper. When I've gotten more accomplished, I'll update the post.

Thanks,
Brian

Oh, okay. Do you know where I can buy them? I have bats inlet overlays, but they are ripping and look like **** now after a couple of washes.

Almost there

One duct has been filled and sanded out:

The other has been filled roughly and is awaiting sanding.

Hopefully it will be done next week, and then I need to final sand the pieces and paint.

Thanks,
Brian

Good luck with the rest of your modification to the inserts. I think it will look good, something I might consider in the future since my front bumper needs replacing. I can't wait to see it all done.

I hope you did more than just fill that area with bondo/filler or else it will crack soon.

Yeah, there's a small piece of wire mesh that you would use to fill a hole in a car body inserted in the empty space. I am worried that it still may crack in the future but we'll see. If it does, I guess I'll have to start over again, maybe with some fiber glass instead.

I would use some reinforced fiberglass as well, or at the very least the mesh with some "kitty hair" fiberglass impregneted filler. Bondo type fillers aren't meant to be applied more the 1/16-1/8" thick

looking good. I love DIY projects. It's awesome that there are still people willing to do some original work themselves.

The area that I used the filler in is very thin after sanding, probobaly about 1/8" thick. Like I said, if it falls apart, it's no big deal. I'll just start over with fiberglass.
