Question for body work guys (pics)
Question...
I recently got a KS replica rear bumper from Klumzyee (nice bumper!) and the body shop charged my an arm and a leg to do the work on it cuz I told them I wanted it done right. Well when I pick it up... 1) the color is off by a shade 2) they got glue / epoxy on one of the inlets that will not come off and they tried to cover it up with paint hoping I would not notice. 3) I think they cut off a part of the bumper near the lic plate bracket (upper right corner lip).
I asked about the color being off and he said "well almost all bumpers dont match the rest of the cars"
I asked about the lip being cut off, he said "are you sure it was not like that when you brought it in?" (I am pretty sure that was there as I am pretty **** and I think I would have noticed it when the bumper arrived)
I did not notice the glue / epoxy until I got her home and washed her today.
Now, I am not overly happy with the work they did as they seemed pretty careless when they were working on her and I do not want them to really touch her again. They also did some other work as well as I recently got hit on a front fender (paint there does not match the hood either)...
What recourse do I have for sub par work? I was thinking about going thru the bill and subtracting the messed up areas and disputing those with my Credit Card Co. I dont mind paying for the decent parts but to pay for a rear bumper that has epoxy stuck on it that I am going to have to get re-done does not make sense to me.
He also told me before I handed him the keys that he could match the paint... I think all he did was get the paint code from the manufacturer and sprayed it without even trying to match it. He also did that on the front fender as well but he blended it into the door so it is not noticeable until you look at it against the hood.
Below: fender / hood... paint does not match.

Below: left side vent w/ epoxy stuck on it.

Below: upper right of lic bracket cut off... Left side is intact.

Below: notice the fender / bumper line... paint does not match.

Help me out with some insights and suggestions please!
I appreciate it!
Thanks!

back when my car was IP, i had the same issue with the paint not matching. It seems that simply using the paint code is never enough to match the paint. I suggest you tell them that whenever painting anything, the paint should always match. You didnt intend on giving them all that money and recieving a bumper that was the wrong color. Go back and tell them to fix it.

Hey man, my dad owns a body shop its part of CARSTAR which is a corp that allows a person to have a warranty on the work they do, so if something bad happens when they move away or go somewhere they just take it to a CARSTAR certified shop and get the work done for free. So knowing that its a good shop one of the best in Tucson. Anyways, the dealer hit my front bumper on a curb when they had it one time and my dad got them to give him a front bumper and he painted it. We did both the front and back because then they would match and if you don't notice all the factory cars have different color bumpers because they are painted in a different places and times then the cars are and they are plastic not metal ( thats what the dealers and paint company's say to people when they ask). So we wanted to make them match so we could say, "yea its factory". So my dads guys used the paint code and painted it on a sheet to see if it matched it didn't so they add a little more pearl and so on until we got it as close as we could and thats with them having the car to make sure the colors match. It ended up looking factory which is both the bumpers matching but a slight different color then the rest of the car.
So what i am trying to say is that its always going to be a little of no matter how good they are, the only other way is to color match the fenders and doors so that they blend. And do some colors sanding. Color match means re-paint them to blend the colors together.
Now as for cutting of a peace of the bumper and the epoxy that is careless work and i would definitely have them re-do it or do what the guys said and tell them, "hey i have the power to make you guys look really bad." I would also take it to other places to see what they say. Sorry if i rambled just wanted to give you a story that showed its really hard to match pearl cars and parts in general.
Michael.

Hey,
Thanks for the replies... This is not the same place I usually go to imalazeeass because they were booked up and busy. I waited for over a month and decided to try a place a guy from my local club reccomended. I hate driving w/ any body damage, and my fender looked ish'd up so I took it to this other place.
The place I usually go to does great work it just takes them forever to get you in and takes forever to get the car back....
well lesson learned. I will go beck there tomorrow and see what he says about the work he did... If he is unwilling or is a @ickhead about it I will just say "ok" and leave... I will then call my visa co. and reverse the charges on the areas in question. I will have pics for proof and I will prevail w/ the visa chargeback.
I will try to get some pics to post up tonight so you can see what I am talking about.
Thanks again.

The only way to get a "perfect" match on the paint is to do a "blend" onto the body panels that the bumpers meet against (you might as well paint the whole car). I have a friend that owns a body shop - he painted a new rear bumper for me after I got hit and it took him 3 attempts to get the color close to perfect. The Infiniti colors have both a metal "flip" and a pearl component. Both of these have to be in exact ratios with the paint on the other body parts or the color will be off in certain lighting. The second time he sprayed the bumper, it looked perfect in sunlight but was obviously off at night. He told me that it was the about the most difficult color match he has done - and he does a ton of custom color work and prides himself on being able to match any color.
Good luck getting it corrected.

Thanks Guys...
I got a claim in with my CC Co. and I have an appointment set with my regular body guy to fix this crap in 2 weeks. He will repaint my whole fender and blend it into the hood, doors, bumper and fix the KS rear bumper (epoxy goop) and repaint my Authentic TS bumper all for a very good price. I should have waited for this guy from the get go but I hated seeing my "G" beat up in the front.
He says I have a good case against this other body shop and he would have been embarrased to let a car out like that. He said the swirls alone they left on her were rediculous...

how much did he charge u bc I'm about to get my fenders, hood, nismo bumper and impul sides painted and installed so I can get a good idea of how much it should cost. Does getting dupont make the paint last longer against paint chips and will it match with stock paint?
