Custom EDFC mount on center console. 56k wont survive..
I know this has been done before.. but i've alwaaaaaaaaaaays wanted to do this. I've tried finding people/shops to do it for me but they either charged too much or was completely clueless on how to do it. So I tried to do it myself..I tried looking for guides on the forums but I wasn't able to find one.. so I hope this will help others who want to do something similar.
The pictures are not of the best quality.. I was more focused on what I was doing rather than taking pictures.. so bare with me.. hahaha
First things first.. get your center console

study the back of it..

try to figure out how the hell you're going to mount this sucker..

I decided to use aluminum since I had it lying around.. it is pretty thin but durable enough.

cut out the piece you want..a little bigger is good but not too big

after you cut it, bend it to shape like this...I just used my hands to bend it.. not that hard. Ideally to get 90 degrees you would need clamps.. but this works out just fine.

next I attempted to mark where I was going to cut..u cant really see but i did lol

cut your hole... this is the most important part.. you want to cut the hole smaller than what you need and then enlarge it slowly because if your hole is too big.. game over. You also want to cut from the backside so incase your dremel slips you won't damage the finish. I didn't care how the cut was initially since im going to enlarge it anyways I just wanted to get as much material out of the way first..

yea i know this looks pretty bad..my cutting skills are not that bad but I was cutting very fast lol.
then I started filing it.. looks a lot better..

more filing..i used a big file and needle files.

you want to test fit every 15 seconds or so.. so the filing process took me a good hour to 2 hours..finally it looks like this

in real life the edges look pretty good.. they are not perfect.. but if I file more i risk enlarging the hole and that'll be no good so it is good as it is. The hard part now is to secure it.. so keep reading..
initially i was going to use the holes provided by the EDFC housing so I took it apart.. warranty void.. oh well

drilled a hole and tried to screw it on with the existing edfc screws.

it worked pretty well except the aluminum was a tad too thick and the screws were too short.. so I decided to ditch it and just used double sided tape. made life a lot easier..but this is what it looked like at the time

in order to secure the frame, I decided to mount it onto the existing screws used to hold the shift boot.. so I used the closest 2.. you can see the screws from the 1st post I made.. 2nd pic.

the hard part is you cant see through the aluminum so marking holes was a PITA! So what I basically did was took a guess.. and ... success for round 1!

sucecss for round 2! woohooo

added some double sided tape for support..

put back the ashtray

u can see how close everything is..

and walla! finished!

the only thing left to do now is to reroute the wire since the EDFC was originally at my knees where most people put it. I also have to modify my center console frame because it kind of gets in the way. It is pouring here in socal so I cant go out.. but i'll update when Im able to! You could probably get by using a smaller piece of aluminum but I felt that the bigger the piece the more sturdy it will be. However, you will have to modify your car because the EDFC now blocks the center console from being able to lock on.

Looks good - i have been wanting to make one for mine as well, but the 5AT console doesn't have enough room.
Looks good though!
