Replica Nismo: Wavy??
Replica Nismo: Wavy??
Has anyone else here brought their replica Nismo front bumpers to the body shop just for them to tell you that it is really wavy and it will take a lot of work to make it look right??

Glide your hand across the bumper and see if it's really wavy or THAT wavy??? That's the #1 excuse for body shops to charge more for aftermarket stuff. BTW is it fiberglass or urethane?

It may appear wavy to the eyes when looking at it from an angle before its preped. After prep it'll look fine. Keep in mind the urethane is RAW and straight from the mold. We can pre-prep our orders but it'll be additional $$ (more then what your shop would charge).
Below are proper and easy prep instruction completely broken down (many shops have their own unique way of doing this tho).
PREP
1. Sand edges and seams completely
2. Wash all surfaces to be painted thoroughly with TSP in warm water and scotcbrite pads
3. Sand surfaces to be painted with 320 wet dry sandpaper - at this point, you should have a dull scratched appearance.
4. Clean surface and all edges with either Dupont 2319S or Sherwin Williams R7K157 or R7K158 or equivalent.
5. Fill all imperfections. if applicable with a flexible putty and sand smooth.
6. Apply adhesion promoter or equivalent Dupont #2322.
7. Note: Some painters prefer, after cleaning the surface, to apply Dupont "Variprime". let dry and scuff with a scothbrite pad and then apply basecoat/clearcoat.
8.Apply basecoat clearcoat following manufacture's recommendations for painting a flexible polyurethane plastic.

You hope? Wow.. not very nice to hope bad things to other people... karma always comes back to bite you in the a$$ my friend.
are aero bumper and nismo bumper the same thing for the sedans? i have a 2004 sedan, and it came with the factory aero kit. i got in an accident, and the front was damaged, but the body shop put on one of those regular 2003-2004 sedan bumpers. i pointed out that i had the aero bumper, and they agreed and changed it. did i get the real one, or did they give me a replica lol...
