Changing trunks

I'm about to exchange my trunk with an 05 spoiler with another member on this board with a trunk without the spoiler. I have a few questions and concerns though.

1. How long does it take and is it easy to do?
2. Do I have to re-wire or anything like that for the key-fob trunk popper to work?

going from a spoiler trunk to a non-trunk spoiler n vis versa shouldnt be hard but its wiring the spoiler to the car where it could get tricky

Oh ok. I have a non spoiler trunk and trading to a trunk with spoiler. Both cars are 05s though if that matters.

removing the trunk is easy, just remove the clips from the interior trunk-lid panel and do the wire connections and clips, pull the wiring out of the trunk lid, unbolt six 12mm bolts from the hinges and carefully remove the lid, install in reverse.

the tough part is switching out rear deck panels if you are switching them out as well (which you should). to get to that panel, every piece of rear interior panel must come out, well except two pieces. heres the short and dirty:

remove rear seats (back rest has cable in it for seat release, so remove that too), remove both side lower and upper panels, remove seat back latch from rear deck panel, remove the clips holding the panel and then pull it towards you and up at the same time...disconnect the 3rd brake light plug while you're at it., install in reverse.

if you are swapping out trunks for the sake of going wingless etc, you will eliminate having a 3rd brake light. On a factory wingless car, the 3rd brake light is located on the interior rear deck panel behind the rears seats in between the rear speakers. you SHOULD swap out panels so that you will get the 3rd brake light and the other guy who now has the winged trunk will have a non-brake light deck panel.

3rd brake lights are required by law, no matter how you cut it.

no both cars should be prewired to accept the wing or the 3rd brake light. on winged trunk there is a brown plug under the rear deck panel waiting for a third brake light, its wrapped in a tannish foam pad.

in a wingless car, the same type of plug is waiting in the trunk lid under the trunk lid panel and all he has to do is simply unplug his third brake light from the plug in the deck panel...removing the trunks and plugging everthing in is the easist part, removing the panels to get to the deck panel and replacing them is the hardest/tedious part, good luck, take your time and make sure you removed all of the clips and pins before you try to put the panels back, not all of them will come out.
