My NRG hood shock ends were rusting. The early versions I guess, had the ends were cheap and if nicked and over time would rust. So I went on McMaster's website and found me some new stainless ***** and glass-nylon ball sockets. Modified the existing brackets to make it all work.

rusty ball and ball socket (couldn't get it apart) with my new stainless ball

Modified stainless ***** with the rusty one

rusty locking pins

Brackets sanded down and holes enlarged to accept the new ball ends

Rustoleum painted satin white brackets

Bracket, socket, and ball at the hood hinge

socket at the fender

all together and working great and rust free

I was little concerned that the bulkier sockets would have some clearance issues but it looks to be all gravy.
