Exclamation Front bumper issue!!!!

I'm having my KurumaZ front bumper installed and for the past couple of days, my bodyshop said that everytime they prime it, it looks good, but after they paint it, little craters start to form!!! he said the first time the primed and painted it, there were a lot, and now today he tells me there still are craters but not as much as before. so now he is gonna do it again! my bodyshop thinks that when they made the bumper, and took it out of the molding, they prolly put some silicone or some liquid to make it easier to remove the bumper, and that sometimes they put too much, and that this is happening because there is still some sort of liquid that is interfering with the paint!!!
what could it be!!??!?

I remember someone mentioned something similar to that on another board once. Why don't you contact the company you bought it from.

any type of oil, releasing agent or silicone residue will cause the "fisheye" effect...the paint pools away from the spot, leaving a small crater like hole in the finish.....

Also, if the paint is applied to heavy, the same thing may happen. Since its a body shop, I doubt if thats the case.

just contacted my shop, the "fisheye" effect is no more!

i pick it up today, unfortunately i cant wash my car for 6 weeks
cause its new paint and it'll get scratched, but it was baked so its good for rain. i'll post up pics as soon as i get the car, thanks for all your posts!

oh also, the fitment part, he said the only issue was that it was sticking out a little bit, so the fixed that problem easy, other than that, perfect fit!

PREP
1. Sand edges and seams completely
2. Wash all surfaces to be painted thoroughly with TSP in warm water and scotcbrite pads
3. Sand surfaces to be painted with 320 wet dry sandpaper - at this point, you should have a dull scratched appearance.
4. Clean surface and all edges with either Dupont 2319S or Sherwin Williams R7K157 or R7K158 or equivalent.
5. Fill all imperfections. if applicable with a flexible putty and sand smooth.
6. Apply adhesion promoter or equivalent Dupont #2322.
7. Note: Some painters prefer, after cleaning the surface, to apply Dupont "Variprime". let dry and scuff with a scothbrite pad and then apply basecoat/clearcoat.
8.Apply basecoat clearcoat following manufacture's recommendations for painting a flexible polyurethane plastic.

It's a poly urethane bumper and needs to be preped differently.. If the shop doesn't have experience with aftermarket parts most likely they wont get it right. your paint isnt going to sit right and will bubble/peel or the poly will just soak everything up.

As for the install.. the Kuruma Z fits excellent from our experience and just like our TS front the fitment issues are caused by installers that do not take the time to adjust, mark, and double checking their work.. Install time for our TS/Kuruma Z is around 3hours with one thats painted and around 15-30min less if its unpainted.. Mesh for both bumpers will have to be installed AFTER holes are drilled from our experience.. But both fits just fine as long as the time is taken..
