Flat black rear diffuser

Body shop guys told me I have to have a clear coat to prevent this flat black paint they put on from chipping off or getting water stains on a rear air diffuser nismo style but I declined because they said the clear coat would make it shine instead of being flat black. So I was wondering if anyone has painted their rear diffuser flat black and if it chipped. Anyone? know anything about if their rear air diffuser ever chipped after being painted flat black... or any color for that matter?

It should be fine. a few members have done it and alot have painted their OEM grills flat black (including myself)

The paint can chip from rocks and such but that can happen even if it has clear coat

the make flat and matte finish clear by the way...I would just check to make sure that they were planing on using that type of clear and not a gloss.

+1.. i did my oem grill flat black but didnt like the contrast w/ the tint and my taillights so i cleared it w/ a couple coats.

the rock chips still occur, i believe the amt of coats of clear will determine how quickly youll get the chips. i think if you put a ton of clear it will be prone to getting chipped quickly.
might have this backwards but ..
correct me if im wrong.
