Fitting after painting?

Hey guys I have a hook up on paint but I'm not comfortable leaving my car with the painter because it's a side job type deal. Would it be okay to just bring him my Kuruma Z front and Impul sides and then fit them after they're painted?

I have no idea about body work so I don't know if this is possible, please give me some advice. Thanks!

Why not fit them, then bring him the parts, then install them

I have no idea how to fit a bumper or sideskirts, but I suppose I could find out and do it ahead of time. Fitment shouldn't be a huge problem, the sides are from klumyzee and the front is from czp.

No I mean prep, paint, the whole 9 yards.

so if you have no idea how to fit a bumper or sideskirts, how do you plan to do that after they are painted? Nothing aftermarket is perfect. NEVER paint something before test fitting.

I would not suggest going ultra cheap as the results might not be what you want.

The shop is fine, they are reputable and do several car clubs in the area but it is a side job, kind of complicated so I'll leave it at that. Just trying to save a couple bucks by putting it on myself. Doesn't seem too hard but I guess the general consensus is that it's a bad idea.

its not a bad idea but just test fit the products before u get them painted or u mnight have to redo them. U will have to drill into them and may cause spider cracks in the process if the paint is too new. I would just take a day and pre-install them on your ride to make sure everything lines up and then paint them.

i agree, its not hard, make sure its fitted and cracks or other alignment problems are fixed before you paint...

some kits need to be drilled or played with to make em fit. some leave gaps that need to filled, or etc...

is your kit fiberglass or poly?

i felt the same way about having a "side" job done..but on the other hand, if you let them do it, they are more inclined to fix any problems on the long run. u get it painted, but waht if you come to a problem...just a thought. a few bucks saved now might not be worth on the long run...

Good luck,

We always prepaint then install so the customer only has to come by once for everything. It'll take a little longer and two + people to install. You'll need to hold up the part -> mark - > drill -> fit -> adjust without scratching the the paint

So what happens if something doesn't line up right after it is painted? Fiberglass never comes out 100% perfect from the mold

Good luck,
The front bumper is polyurethane Kuruma Z and the sides are fiberglass Impul from klumyzee. I'm in professional school right now so time is really in short supply, but I will look into getting my parts fitted before painting. If it turns out to be too much trouble I may just sell the parts or bite the bullet and pay for everything to be done at once.

I do that to a handful of parts only. But if it doesnt fit (which does happen once every once while) then I trash it and throw on a new set. But its pretty rare I'm pretty on top of everything as far as quality goes I let everything COMPLETELY cure/dry before pulling it out

I'm sure the parts I have will fit fine, they are from two reputable vendors. I guess I'm just not willing to pay the $1400 minimum (as quoted to me by multiple shops) that it'll take to get the two pieces put on.

Maryland is a lot different than Cali for body work, the shops around are ridiculously expensive which is why I've spent so long looking for used parts that are already painted so I can just get a respray and put on myself. But no luck; people over here also buy aftermarket parts and keep them on their car forever. Must buy new everything.

I'm coming to the point where I may just sell the parts just so I don't have to worry about it, since I have way too many other things in life going on right now to think about how I'm going to get them put on my car.
