I debadge my car yesterday but it left this rubberish thing glue to the trunk and I cant get it off.

I used that turtle wax bug and tar remover, used goo gone, used a blow dryer to heat it up to the point where the trunk would burn to the touch but this damn thing just wont come off.

I just dont know what to use anymore without ruining my paint.
This thing feels hard to the touch and not gooey.

Any help would be appreciated.

Keep applying goo gone with a soaked cloth or paper towel until the grey turns black and let it sit for a minute, but not too long. Take an old library card or credit card and start carefully scraping. Repeat until the gunk is gone. A faster but more painful way to do it is to use your thumb, apply lots of pressure and roll that stuff off. Then use a towel and goo gone to wipe off the residue that's left.

If that info is not enough to help you, then take it to a bodyshop. They have abrasives that will take the stuff off right away, but although I've never been charged anything for something so simple they might charge you about $10-20

 

I put some goo gone and left it on for like 20 mins, didnt do a damn thing
This thing is really stuck to the paint and its very hard.

But any how when I did mine I used my nail with bug and tar sitting on it. This was bad as it scrached my car. Watching the subaru detag video I should of done that. They head up the foam stuff after spraying on some bug and tar and with the base of your thumb rub the foam stuff it should come right off.

20 min is way too long.. the goo gone evaporated a long time ago already. 30 sec to 1 min will do just fine. It's hard because you heated it up and baked it dry.

 

keep working it with goo gone. i used 3M bug and tar remover on mine - it came off eventually.

 

This is what I did.

used the bug and tar remover let it sit there for about 10 mins wiped it out then used the blow drying, but still wouldnt come off and I think it made things worse since the glue got harder now and basicly bonded to the paint.

I think am gonna take it to a body shop tomorrow, as I using my finger nail and scracthed it a bit, dont want to keep doing that.

 

I applied goo gone, waited about 30 sec then rubbed with my thumb while pressing hard. I had to do this continuously for about 20 minutes. Each time it seems like you aren't really removing much but you just have to be diligent. I don't think heating it up made it that much worse because your car will easily heat up to a point where its too hot to touch on a hot summer day.

 

just go to your local parts store and get some 3M adhesive remover. By far the best.

 

That's just adhesive. If you heat it up it will come right off.

 

Well since everything I tried failed I just decided to take the car to my local car wash where they also do detailing.

They were finally able to take that stuff off and only charged me $20.
Dude said they had to some some type of metal cleaner or something that reacted to the glue.

OP, when you bought the "SKYLINE" and "350GT" were the letters pre spaced out, or did you have to figure out how much space to leave in between each letter?
