Exclamation Someone hit my rear bumper, had it replaced, new paint looked good, now looks darker?

Is it possible for the paint to change colors or something? Or does the paint not pop as well on the plastic bumper as it does the metal body? The paint looked perfect when I got it back, but now I can see a slight color difference between the body and the bumper..

Look at these pics and tell me if you notice a difference.. thanks.

There can be variation in the paint from metal to plastic. And if your paint faded on the car over the years, a new part that is sprayed wont match perfectly.

Usually when I get paint mixed Ill have them scan an adjacent panel with a digital paint scanner, basically like a digital camera except it gives you a paint code so an exact match can be mixed. Most good autobody supply shops should have one.

Also depends what shade of primer is used underneath, that can change the color of basecoat also. Pretty sure there are 7 value shades of primer.

Im sure it looks worse in person as digital pics online never show the details you can see in real life.

Best bet is to blend the paint into the adjacent panel but of course thats gonna cost more since theyll have to reclear the blended panel.

So did they mess up? I don't know how to blend or anything lol.

The paint on the body seems to 'pop' more, more shine more luster, the bumper doesn't. I'd say the body has like a white primer, and the bumper has like a bronze or gray primer, but I have no idea.

They didnt really mess up... just didnt go about matching the paint correctly.

See if they wetsanded and buffed it out... not doing that could be why it doesnt "pop" as much

color will never get darker after recent paint work,

sanding, buffing will not help the color match,

most OEM paint never matches between bumpers and quarters.

shop did absolutely nothing wrong,

drive by any dealership and look at the color match on bumpers and the body.

light metallic colors are always harder to match than darker or solid colors
