Trunk release problems

Good evening fellow board members,
I come to you begging help. I have a 2005 G35X premium. I've encountered a few problems.

Firstly: Over the past 9-12 months, my exterior key sensor for the trunk has ceased to function. Both the driver and passenger side open request switches do lock and unlock as they should, and the keyless ignition functions flawlessly. However, I get NO function from the trunk open request switch. Further, if I put the FOB into the trunk, the car has no idea that I left the keys in there and won't pop it back open as it should. I pulled the driver side tail light assembly and visually inspected the wiring to the switch, and found no cracks or obvious problems. I have no idea where the actual sensor sits. The switch in the glove box is set to ON. All fuses are in acceptable condition. Recently the wiring in the trunk failed and the dash switch and fob would not open the trunk, but after repair of the wiring in the trunk lid, the switch at the dash and the key fob both open the trunk without problem.

Any thoughts?
