I have not done it, but this is one of those jobs that may look very intimidating, but once you do it you will realize that it is not that hard at all.

i had a shop do mine. they charged me like 60 bucks to install a DD, pioneer xm adapter, pioneer ipod adapter, and a bluetooth adapter. i provided all the parts to include the install kit i bought off ebay for $160. Then they charged me like 60 bucks to run a 4 guage amp kit which they provided.

Shops vary a great deal usually because of its name. I had this local shop do it for me for $65, its a not a famous shop, charged cheap. The shop i went before was going to charge me 250 alone...but apparently they "REALLY" (notice the quotes) know what they are doing, because they do car shows and crap like that but I didn't give a **** I'm not paying that much to get a double din installed. You need to go to shops and ask around, every shop varies depending on their skill level and etc.

i went with the pioneer dvd AVH-6050. I paid a G for it but later discovered that i could get it cheaper elsewhere. im happy with the unit but its kind of a pain in the ars that you have to add everything on like the ipod adapter, bluetooth, and xm ... all cost extra.
the ipod interface is displayed on the touch screen as opposed to fumbling around with your ipod when plugged into the aux cord.
you can change the color and style of the display but not the buttons which are blue and dont match any of the factory ac controls.

Wow 60-70 bucks? That's cheap. I thought it was going to be in the few hundred range. Hmmm might be worth it to just get someone do it, I feel like I am going to mess it up pretty bad. So it only takes the shop about an hour to remove everything and install? Now I just have to figure out what to get... Recommendations??

I've done the headunit replacement three times now, it's really not hard at all, but if you have no experience installing, and you can find a reputable shop that'll do it for $60, do it, however, when I can do it myself in less than the time it takes to drive down and back to a reputable shop, it's definitely getting done in my driveway.

If you need help on doing it yourself, go to the A/V forum, and look in the stickies - I've got the shopping list for all the parts you'll need as well as how-to-guides with lots of pictures (and video for '03-04 - soon for '05-07).
