i have the same problem but not as bad .. i think the oem hinges are going bad

CJunemann 11-09-2010 07:47 PM

wtf? Hinges you say? Damn these crazy Infiniti problems... lol

This car is great, and would buy again if given the chance, but we have some odd ball issues lol

Same thing has happened to me before, man...passenger side. The hinges need to be greased up every so often. I just do a few quick blasts of silicone spray a couple times of year and it hasn't happened since.

I imagine hood dampers would help keep this from happening too.

spray some WD on the hinge bracket a few times a year and you should be ok. Thats really bad buy some new hinges.

I don't have any pics of the process, but it's extremely simple -- easy as greasing a squeaky door hinge in your home. Just get some WD-40 or silicone spray (or your favorite lubricant...no homo), and use it one the hinge pivot points.

Lithium-based spray grease works well and will last far longer than silicone or WD.

SkylineGTR2789 11-09-2010 08:39 PM

I sprayed my hinges with WD-40 and it didnt help .. the hood still opens too closely to the fender, maybe im doing it wrong ? :confused2:

it's already bent, replace the hinges and properly lubricate them before they do any additional damage.

+1 I simply used WD-40 4-5 years ago and the problem has not occurred since.

I tried WD-40 and White lithium grease, RESULT: broken hood hinge
Once the the hinge has bent and the structural integrity of the hinge is compromised, it may continue bending even with proper lubrication causing the fender/hood damage and leading to eventual failure. I'm not saying this will happen to you necessarily, it all depends on how bad off your hinges already are.

Swivel 11-10-2010 01:03 PM

^^ Yup, if you can loosen it up and it's not bent, you're fine, otherwise no amount of lube will straighten a bent hinge.
